I think there's only a certain percentage of listeners who will understand what Gino's music is about. That's the beauty of it. Yes, everyone can relate to the hits, but most of the songs I love best are not his hits.

I'm a gino fan since i heard 'Love of my life' on the radioshow 'Langs the lijn' in the Netherlands. I recorded it on my tape recorder around 1983 but I didn't know who the artist was..... My first thoughts were; If I could sing and make music , that's the music I want to make. I was also (liko Don) under the impression that it was a black singer.... Later a friend in the army asked me if I've ever heard of/ listened to Gino Vannelli and I sayed no. After that, I discovered that Gino was the artist of 'Love of my Life'. Bought all his albums, on vinyl and CD. Gino is the artist among artists. The stucture of the chords and melodies he uses is extrordenary. I am very happy with this wonderfull interview and the openes of Gino and his words. Thank you Gino and Tom!

I've always said that the album "Aja" is one of the best records ever made. Now that Gino concurs, I stand proud of my music knowledge. And I've always said that "Brother to Brother" is right up there with it. I must have listened to both of those records a thousand time, wishing I could drum like those masters. 🥰😍🤩👏👏👏

HUGE FAN that time ago ❤️ My boyfriend surprised me with concert tickets to see Gino in Toledo, OH. The BEST birthday gift I ever received!!! I blasted Gino's cassette tape every day and night in my brand new Triumph TR7 as I drove across town for my work....So glad I found your concerts on KZbin.......the music brought me right back to that time in my life. Thank you, Gino, I'm a fan forever. 🥇🌹🏆

Tom and Gino thanks for this conversation! This was fantastic! I have been a huge Gino fan for nearly a half century. My first concert was in 1978 at the Lakeland Civic Center. He was backed up the great Phyllis Hyman. I'm pretty envious as I've always wanted to interview Gino about his music and recordings and you did a nice job.

I was a teenaged keyboardist when Gino hit the airwaves and that keyboard band was mind blowing. Loved his music from Crazy Life to Night Walker, I sort of dropped off at Black Cars, seems like he and I had similar feeling about it.

Gino is one of those artists that doesn’t follow any particular cookie-cutter mold. He has a style and sound all his own. I would rank the album “Brother to Brother” as one of my all time favorites, and in my top 10 as all time best albums. And some of his live performances are unmatched as far as visual and audio quality. And he had a niche for choosing the best drummers and guitar players.

Yes, Eve. People call him or label him as a pop star, or I've even heard critics/ others consider him a rock star. But it seems like his main influences are jazz fusion. My sister had a major crush on him in the early 1970's. Even to this day when I mention his name all she says is "Lord Have Mercy".

This was an excellent interview! Thanks! Gino has always been an incredible artist. Nice to see him in recent times. I was a big fan during the 70s, but lost track of him during the 80s and 90s. So glad he is still around making great music. He is a very intelligent guy. I love Weather Report too! I couldn't agree more with his musical picks. Always interesting to hear about all the things an artist experiences in their early career, and how it opened the doors for them to become who they are.

Really enjoyed this interview, I remember first hearing Gino Vannelli’s music in late 70’s, and I picked up on his attention to quality, style and soul, it seemed to flow pretty natural, and I’ve enjoyed listening to him ever since. Music has been a big part of my life since late 60’s with a variety of taste, from Basie, Ellington, Ella, Sinatra, Bennett, Vaughan, Parker, Davis, Hancock, Morgan, TJader, Shorter, Evans, to Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Zeppelin, Aretha Franklin, Barry White, Marvin Gaye, Smokey, Dramatics, Tower of Power, Blood Seat & Tears, Jose Feliciano, Earth Wind & Fire, Steely Dan, Dobbie Brothers, and many others, I feel Vannelli is in the mix with all these great artist, and after listening to him his approach to creating music as well as a meaningful life…well it makes me like his music even more, thank you both ✌🏽

I hate the term "yacht rock"...basically slow grooves that cook and use horn players and the best musicians or vocalists are put in this category..Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins, Doobie Brothers, Gino and many others just made great music....a good song is a good song period.
