My half sister lived right next door to a 132kv substation. That 50Hz buzz on a still summer evening was sublime 😍

Ferranti DC3 tap changers “chip pans” !! Love maintaining the diverter tank on a hot day with the oil dripping on you ! Quality bit of engineering tho , they don’t make them like that anymore

Looking at the name plate, it seems the transformer is arranged as delta - wye? The 33kV comes in as delta form and the 11kV leaves in wye form. Also it seems the transformer has different tap points so it can accept voltages other than 33kV.

Brill vid, couple of corrections though. The things you call circuit breakers are ABI’s (air break isolators), what you called the 11kv output on the transformer is actually the neutral point connection to the secondary winding where sometimes an earthing transformer or neutral/liquid earthing resistor would be connected and the oil isn’t ‘stored’ in the conservator at the top of the radiators, that’s just there to give room for oil expansion with heat but will generally be empty.

Ok cheers thank for the correction.

jonny morgan83 No worries, what made you film this video, an interest of yours or just giving general information? I’ve always had a weird interest in substations and overhead power lines and so not long ago got a job with our local DNO as a substation fitter. Oh and another bit of useless info, the red disks on the cable terminations are called ‘rain sheds’ and are used in modern cable termination kits. Older ones where the cable seems to go through a large insulator are called ‘sealing ends’ 👍🏻

@@sinista6536 Our DNO is weston power distribution.
