Loved those color vector games! They looked so impressive in a dark arcade. Tempest was my favorite of them all.

I just came into one of these cabinets. It is all original, a little banged up, but for the most part it is really nice and all the art work is fine. Every time I turn it on a fuse blows and I really do not know anything about working on these machines. I was curious if you could give me a ball park idea of what it may be worth as is. Any info you could give me is appreciated. It may be a super simple fix. The fuse that blows is labeled F3 and it is the only one that blows consistently.

My father bought me this is a child birthday present. The screen went blank but the game is running? What is usually the common cause for this? Where do I begin testing?

hi dear! is there some way to start the machine like a real front end start engine cabinet using a pc emulation? (without the initiation of the windows operating system, starting direct from the game when turn on the machine) cause i´m building my first vintage arcade replica

Death Star detonation never appeared full on any cabinet I've seen. Too many lines for "Persistence of Vision" to work. Ever wonder how they get the whole screen to flash gray when you take a hit? You'll notice the 4 blue dots in the corners of the playfield. If you align them properly on the horizontal dimensions, you'll get the gray flashes. This game takes advantage of a flaw in CRTS where any beam that's far overscanned hits the sides of the glass, the light diffuses and lights up the phosphors, mostly on the side that's being overscanned. In the case of Star Wars, on the far left and right of the playfield, there's an added bright fat white vertical line not part of the playfield itself (hence why it's not in MAME, for example). These fat lines are drawn on those sides of the CRT, which diffuses through the CRT, producing a fairly consistent grayish overtone. Of course, linearity and consistency in geometry will affect the purity of the grayness. The reason I know this is I played a cockpit version where the horizontal width was way too short, entirely square, which shows you how the "Gray" thing happens. In that case, there's not a gray flash, you just see the fat white bars on the extreme sides. There's a video somewhere of a guy showing that this game can be rendered on an oscilloscope, and when he took damage, the white bars, albeit thin on the scope, were there.

Thanks for this neat trivia...many were certainly enlightened today!

@@tntamusements Of course, now that I want to show a link, none exists. There are videos of the game on the scope, but they don't show damage, or the scopes are overscanned. Only when it matters. :) If you got another game, set the horizontal width really small, you'll see what it is. :)

How many did Atari make?
@tntamusements10 жыл бұрын
They made 10,245 uprights, and 2450 cockpit models! Assume 1/4 of them have survived. Here is a link to all the Atari Game Production numbers...you may find this veru interesting, especially the price. Star Wars was closed out at $1695 when it stopped selling! www.atarigames.com/atarinumbers90s.pdf
