4:33 i'd get a long sturdy pipe, weld a hydraulic jack from an engine hoist at the end, put a chisel end on the ram and then by poking the pipe in the ground/wall of the mine, push against the rocks with the power of hydraulics. That's how we cleared a huge, Mini (car) sized boulder from a cave once. Unless someone else did it before us, we might be the first nutcases to have ever brought a generator, stick welder and sections of pipe inside a cave, bit by bit so we could do this. :)) I used to do some pretty stupid things when i was younger.

You said you can't use Dynamite, but what about some old fashioned Cherry Bombs? You may not need a whole lot of *bang* to loosen enough of those rocks to get them to move.

To clear your rock jam, fill your ore cart to overflowing. Wrap one end of your longest chain around the rock you want to move. Attach the other end of your long chain to the ore cart. Then see how fast you can push the ore cart.
@jasongoodrich1
@jasongoodrich1 Жыл бұрын
Attach a rope to the front of the cart as well and then pull the cart to a roll instead of pushing it that way you won't be in harm's way of the rock coming down or if the chain on the rock snaps

Rocks can be moved by using a highly energetic chemical reaction. The old timers used a mixture of 75% potassium nitrate, 15% willow charcoal, and 10% sulfur. Put it in a ball mill for 24 hours. It needs to be compressed so drill a hole or put it in an iron pipe. Fuse burns at 40 seconds per foot so you can give it enough time.

That’s pretty neat and hardwork! Congrat! Just be sure to put some stull eventually, drawing all that muck the side of the stope goes back pressure as they muck out in the past and probably came down.

Stulls in narrow vertical stopes like that are more to support work platforms than to holding the ribs from collapsing. The walls are pretty solid.

Hey Frank, long time viewer and subscriber and alway enjoy your explores & work at the Yankee boy. Question for you… why is your muck waste that you’re carting out and land sliding down seem to have so much fine ‘dirt’ in it? It looks like perfectly graded bedding material with that much fines (dirt) in it. I would have thought that mining / blasted waste rock would be a little courser in the broken gravel size. Just wondering your thoughts on that.
@exploringabandonedmines
@exploringabandonedmines Жыл бұрын
It is the nature of the rock. A high percentage of the waste rock is pulverized during blasting. There is a mixture of fine and course material.

You could try tannerite, it's legal in Canada nad any gun shop should have it. it's a reactive target explosive, and it dons't burn clean so you'd need ventilation, but it would probably work if you stuck 5 lbs in there. You'd have to figure out how to set it off without a rifle or access to blasting caps. Either that or you stop by the plumbing section of the hardware store. Oh, and don't forget pick up some smokeless powder for reloading your bear rifle... just don't film it. (you tube doesn't like "gun content" 😉😉) That would actually be a funny time to use one of those finger snap jump cuts. walk around the corner to the pile, hole up for fingers and SNAP! the rocks are moved. no context, you're just a rock wizard now. I'd also use a "wizard stick" to stabilize that stope you opened up, toss one in and let the concussion stabilize it. there's actually a few spots were there are big dirt clods clinginging to the ribs that could probably be cleared up with a loud boom

Hello. I'm curious about the material coming down. There's so much of it, like they just quit working. It's just waste material? So was it just stored rather than removed? Or plugged or, what's the deal?
@exploringabandonedmines
@exploringabandonedmines Жыл бұрын
It is part of the hanging wall, footwall or ore passages. All this material was removed to access the white quartz that contained the gold and silver they were after. As they worked the stope higher they left the material behind so they could stand on it.
