@LongToungedLiar
@LongToungedLiar 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheSaucyFlow Not really safety reasons, but you're right about it taking a while for a wood stove to start properly radiating heat. Before the fire really gets going, the tent is pretty much the same temp as the outside minus any windchill. My best bet is there was quite a bit of smoke from lighting the fire and he wanted to air the tent out. That's not uncommon.

I did something very similar once. I found myself in a Forest with limited resources. I managed to gather enough wood to build a crude shelter and gathered some basic food provisions. You think it’s quite difficult but when a man is stripped of creature comforts and forced to survive you find out what you’re really made of. After a period of time my shelter was improved and I even managed to make some basic tools to help with day to day living. I was actually quite enjoying the survival lifestyle and became quite proud of what I had managed to build. Even collecting flowers to make the place a bit more homely. Truely I was at peace with myself. Then one night tragedy struck, I made the one mistake you should never make in this position. I got comfortable and took my survival for granted. The nights can be quite ferocious and if you’re ill prepared you can quickly become endangered. I was outside my shelter chopping wood and that’s when I heard a noise that still to this day sends a chill down my spine. A hissing noise. I turned around and that’s when I saw it. A creeper! Before I could do anything it was too late and it exploded. Destroying my shelter and killing me. I’ll never play minecraft again.

What difference does it make to have a different knife for each job? If you don't want wood chips in your food just wipe it off. I don't see any logic in having multiple knives. I used to hike and mountaineer a lot in my younger days. Carrying unnecessary weight was always a consideration. I carried one knife and used it for everything.
@CountryBuff08
@CountryBuff08 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamescrud I guess it depends on your needs. This man doesn't appear to be mountaineering so much as camping, so I don't see weight being as much of an issue. I don't see him carrying his food knife to chop wood. However, your knives will wear with usage. And a dull knife is dangerous. Using a knife only for a specific job helps reduce that wear. Not that he couldn't carry a sharpener. But if the blade is beyond saving, then you no longer have a knife at all. If this were a short trip, say only a few days, it probably wouldn't matter. But if you're planning an extended stay, having more than one knife is simply smart planning.

For those not familiar with Canadian geography - re. "UpNorthOf 60" - 60' latitude is the boundary between Northwest Territory and Alberta & Saskatchewan ; Yukon and British Columbia; and Nunavut and Manitoba. That boundary goes from Hudson Bay almost to the Pacific Ocean, about 2300 km (rough estimate).

Haha, glamping? Look at the video! This guy isn't camping, he's hanging out in a canvas shed! With like, a wood stove and a pre-stock of seasoned wood from last summer. There's bushcrafting, then camping, then glamping. This guy is borderline glamping, but I understand it's because he's in an area where a bad night outdoors can turn to a survival situation pretty fast. Bringing firewood with you isn't just smart, but its a rule in some campgrounds. They don't want everyone cutting down trees and there isn't enough dead wood to go around.

Reduce your expenses and pay off debt fast! Then, set up multiple savings accounts at your bank or credit union with automatic transfers into each, for your savings goals (rent/mortgage, utilities, groceries, transport, and canvas tent), on payday.
