I saw Smurf's video and knew I had to make this. I found it kind of funny how a lot of the reasons he listed for reasons to ship Jyrus were reasons I had actually stopped shipping them, and so some of the points brought up here are counter-points to that. For example, I don't think it's healthy that Cyrus idolizes Jonah, but he and TJ see each other on the same level, which I do think is healthy. Again, I have nothing but love and respect for Smurf and Jyrus shippers in general. You can ship absolutely anything you want to. This is not me trying to start a fight, simply trying to show my side. Please keep all discourse civil :)

*warning - this is going to be a long comment. i have so much to say about this ship it's not even funny.* i used to ship jyrus, but only really because jonah was the only person to ship cyrus with at the time, you know? cyrus had a crush on jonah, jonah was really the only option for cyrus because he has little to no interactions with other boys on the show, and he verbally admitted to liking jonah. but then, while on my laptop, i look over at my tv.. it's the swing set scene, and i have never jumped ship faster. in that one little scene, i saw so much potential and chemistry between these two characters, more than i have ever seen between jonah and cyrus. as the show has gone on, i have seen how much more healthy and beneficial this relationship is than literally any other couple or ship on the show. i don't understand how people can't see how much these two help each other. tj makes cyrus comfortable, he doesn't look down at him, and instead gets visibly upset when people belittle cyrus. cyrus also makes tj comfortable, he makes tj want to be a better person. these two accept each other for who they are, while still helping each other grow as people - and honestly, that's what a good relationship should be. jyrus is a fine ship and all, i can see the appeal. but i don't think it would be a healthy relationship for cyrus. jonah beck thinks cyrus is helpless, jonah beck is embarrassed to do silly things with cyrus. jonah beck treats cyrus the same way he treats everyone else. on the other hand, tj kippen thinks cyrus can do whatever he puts his mind to. tj kippen isn't afraid to be seen doing silly things with cyrus. tj kippen thinks the world of cyrus. tj treats no one else the way he treats cyrus. those soft looks? reserved for cyrus. those big smiles? reserved for cyrus. the only time we have seen tj be himself are his scenes with cyrus. tj obviously has a lot to make up for. he definitely needs to apologize to buffy, and from then on he just needs to be nicer to people. however, i notice so many people in the fandom act like he needs to do so much more to prove that he's changed (mainly jyrus shippers..) and no, he really doesn't. tj's storyline with buffy is almost over. all he needs to do is apologize and his arc with her is finished. people are so against tyrus that they convince themselves that tj is worse than he actually is. since becoming friends with cyrus, tj has treated people with so much more respect and kindness, he's shown that he has become a better person. in every scene together. that's right, every *goddamn* scene, tj and cyrus have helped each other grow as people. literally all tj needs to do is apologize to buffy. that's it. he doesn't have to save all of china for him to be completely redeemed. the fandom has forgiven amber, i haven't seen anyone say anything about everything she's done. amber, while she has shown that she is becoming nicer, has still barely been redeemed at all. what she did was way worse than what tj did to buffy. he just picked on her a little to try and get her to quit the basketball team, while amber straight up emotionally manipulated jonah. but i still see people acting like amber is a saint while tj is the embodiment of all evil. i can one hundred percent say that most people hate tj because he rivals jyrus. and i can also one hundred percent say that tj has made cyrus happier than jonah beck every will, and that's the real tea. not to mention that i think having tj be more lgbt rep for the show would be much better than jonah. yes, while i would love to have a bi jonah beck, because bi representation is important, i think tj being lgbt would be more ground breaking. tj would show kids that you can be masculine and still like the same gender. he would show kids that you can be comfortable with your sexuality and still be a jock. he would show kids that it's okay to have a learning disability while also being lgbt, that it's okay to be different in more than one way. i think that even if he isn't lgbt he is still a good character. tj show kids that people you see as bullies may have deeper things going on, but it's still not okay for them to take it out on others. he shows kids that it's okay to have a learning disability. he shows kids that boys can be emotional and still masculine. and having tryus be endgame would break SO many stereotypes. even the stereotype they resemble (jock x nerd, they also kind of have a romeo and juliet relationship) is completely different to anything i've seen. tj isn't scared to be seen with cyrus, he has never made fun of cyrus so he could keep up his reputation. cyrus has never had to change himself for tj to like or notice him. cyrus hasn't been hopelessly pining for tj - if anything i'd say it's the opposite, tj is SMITTEN. tj doesn't have to choose between basketball or cyrus, there's no need to choose, because he doesn't value basketball and his reputation over cyrus. they have never had to keep their friendship a secret because of their reputation. i'm pretty sure if anyone on the basketball team tried to get tj to stop being friends with cyrus because he's nerdy or embarrassing, tj would go OFF. overall, this ship is the healthiest, happiest, lgbt ship i've seen in a long time. wait, no, it's the healthiest and happiest SHIP i've seen in a long time.

This is such a well-made video that highlights some really subtly (almost) romantic parts in the few, but chemistry-loaded scenes the two of them have with each other. I'm a little scared about the future of this relationship based on the season finale promo, where it looks like Buffy and TJ could be developing something between them, but I'm really hoping that it's just a friendship, as Joshua did say in an interview that there are many more Tyrus scenes in the upcoming season. It'd be such a shame to throw out such a perfect relationship with so much representation in it, and not only for the LGBTQ+ community, but in terms of facing typical stereotypes in schools as well. Thank you for this. I 100% agree with everything in this video and it's what I have been saying since the beginning (of Tyrus). They are a pair that truly helps each other grow and develop. I think most Jyrus shippers (including myself) like them because they were the first ship we were introduced too, they look adorable together (I feel weird saying that) and also it was Cyrus' first crush and we all just want Cyrus to be happy. All in all even though I like Jonah Tyrus is the more mutually beneficial ship.

Adding to last comment...As a aspiring screenwriter I have given this a lot of thought and I honestly still think Jyrus could still happen. I think both Jonah and TJ need Cyrus. Jonah needs constant support and reassurance (especially with his panic attacks to which Cyrus can relate) and TJ needs someone he can be himself with and not have to be tough all the time. I think as the seasons go on both TJ and Jonah will come to realize how much they both rely on Cyrus to be there when they need him and eventually "maybe possibly" Jonah realizes he likes Cyrus as more than a friend. Also even though Cyrus claimed his crush is gone I doubt it's gone completely. Also I can't remember which episode it was but Jonah did say once and I quote "I just don't like labels, they're too labely," foreshadowing maybe, I think so but we'll just have to wait and see.

Rodney Gantt I must say, I think Jonah was really meant to function as that 'first straight crush' most gay people have. I feel like they could've addressed it way better, but it's important to include just because it covers the fact that not every person a gay person falls for is going to be gay as well. I know people speculate that Jonah is bisexual, but based on the fact that Jonah treats Cyrus like Buffy, I doubt that's the case. I think it would be a terrible choice in writing to have Cyrus end up with Jonah just because it completely gets rid of the whole straight crush thing, and doesn't break stereotypes like Tyrus does. I must also add, it's good that people keep having hope for Jyrus, cause it simply puts them in the shoes of a gay person: they keep wishing for something that could never happen, and keep hoping that their straight crush is bisexual. Mostly every queer person has been there before. I'm surprised that they made Cyrus's crush "disappear", and I doubt it's completely gone as well. But it could be that it just shifted over to TJ, that's the only explanation, honestly.

Justin Hardy You make an excellent point. I never thought of it that way and it would make sense from a realistic standpoint to have Jonah be nothing more than a crush. Either way Tyrus does make more sense and is a more mutually beneficial pairing. And adding to the element of realism, it would make sense to have TJ struggle a bit to come to terms with his feelings for Cyrus as it would show an accurate depiction of what many LGBT youths experience and have Buffy help him through that. Then again this all speculation and wishful thinking.
