When I travel, I love thrifting something from that city as a reminder of where I went.

I read somewhere this quote “Plans are useless, but planning is everything.” I think this can be true for travelling. It’s good to plan ahead, but sometimes we have to be flexible with our plans. Planning ahead to be a Planet-Kind Traveller increases my anticipation and excitement for the trip, and I love that!! Great video today Gittemary. Thank-you and have a great weekend. 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary💕

One thing I always do when travelling is to take some solid laundry soap, a laundry bag (something like the Scrubba) and a travel washing line so that I only need to take a small amount of clothes and then I can just wash them myself when needed. You end up with much less luggage that way, which is great!

Thank you so much for the tip! Haven't heard about the Scrubba before.

that is a very useful and detailed video!! as for souvenirs, i would suggest buying postcards instead of magnet or keychain if u want to bring something material home:) i think thats kinda sustainable hehe
@fierce_history2 жыл бұрын
This is a great idea. I find I like buying postcards because they are easier to store and you can frame them when you get home (or just tack to the wall) for a nice small art piece.

Great tips, we always carry reusable water bottles everywhere we go. I also like to take my own toiletries so I never have to use what is provided. We prefer to stay in Airbnb's so we can buy fresh produce from local markets or supermarkets. I always have reusable shopping bags with me or a backpack. Our last trip was to Paris in October. The only thing we bought back was a book for our daughter on Ancient Egypt, she loved the mummy at the Louvre museum, she really enjoys the book 😁👍

Good suggestions. Instead of carrying both a reusable water bottle and a reusable coffee mug, choose a double-walled metal bottle. These can be used for both hot and cold drinks as the double walled design creates an insulating effect that keeps cold drinks cool and hot drinks hot.

Can you please make a video on your process for planning your travels? How do you pick where to stay, do you plan each day out ahead of time or have a loose list of activities you'd like to do and hit them when you get to them on the trip, etc.?

I get hangry pretty quickly, especially while traveling. That's why I aim to always have some nuts or baked goods with me, to avoid impulse buying and convenient but unsustainable foods

I took home the tiny shampoo and conditioner bottles from a hotel night that was offered. I used the shampoo 6 more times and the conditioner about 14-15 more. I have a 600ml thermos and used for smoothies, hot cocoa, ice cream, soup, water and tea. Rinse it out at the hostel or ask to rinse at the shop (and most will oblige!) and in some spots I'd gotten a discount for not using a disposable cup.

I planned to go to France with my mother but "covideoplayer" time started so we didn't want to travel so every day we went to some place locally by bike. We visited 3 lakes, went to a couple different parks, some museums and just had a fun time in our city :)

I don't usually stay in all-inclusive resorts so I had never considered the impacts of it to the environment. And OMG I just stayed somewhere and I couldn't get the AC to stop at all. There wasn't an off button. So I would have to call the front desk to stop it!

These are awesome tips! The only one I would disagree with is the turning off the A/C completely. Depending on the environment, it would be best to not turn it off completely, but simply turn it up. It keeps the air circulating and won't take as long to cool down.

I do try not to fly but living in Spain and not flying somewhere in Europe is really hard, trains are expensive (overpriced I'd say) and the journeys are the loooongest. I try to fly as least as possible but I just can't...

@SunnivaAbelli2 жыл бұрын
You could maybe consider trying to make the politicians prioritise building better railways? It takes time of course. But a small thing that actually can make an impact is emailing some politicians. They need to know that they have support from the people if they are going to try making more sustainable decisions…
@coralovesnature2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I live in the US and if you are traveling to another state that is far away your two options are pretty much to fly or to drive yourself. Technically there are trains, but they have very limited routes and schedules and yes, take an extremely long time. For example, a train from Chicago, IL to San Antonio, TX is 34 hours, driving time by car is 17 hours (not including time needed to stop and take breaks), and flying is about 6 hours, including 1 stop since there is no direct flight from Chicago to San Antonio. The cost to get a cabin in an overnight train and to fly is not that different, but the train takes basically two full days of travel time on the way there, plus another two full days on the way back vs. flying, which is about half a day on the way plus half a day on the way back.

Ah, one thing about refusing cleaning services, those are often used to cut hours of workers and therefore possibly deprive them of things like health insurance (at least in the US). Like yes obviously we don’t need rooms cleaned all the time but it might be detrimental to people who need to for the work 😕

Hello all! Do reef safe sunscreens matter even when you shower? Does sunscreen end up in the ocean after showering?

Yes, I always always always use reef-safe sunscreens, because when we shower (and when we pee) the chemicals from the sunscreen end up in our watersystems ☺️

Never take the oppertunity to stroke a lion cub. When the cub is no longer cute it will be used for wealthy businessmen to "hunt" and shoot. Its called canned hunting and is disgusting.
