This video was made for the enthusiast and or hobbyist. The engine is a 1993 light duty 350 (5.7) TBI (Throttle Body Injection) , it is not 34 years old as initially stated in the video , it was checked after I published the video. There is a couple minutes loss of sound at approx 1hour 6 minute mark and a song from 1:10:10 to 1:13:30 ( I apologize) to cover another copyrighted song as I had the radio on and picked up some Copyrighted Content ( song's )by mistake. I did try several times to remove the songs with no luck.

Pulled the exact same engine out of my 90 C2500. Crank had so much end play the counter balances were eating into the caps and block and ruined a flex plate. Couple of the bearings were starting to 'blue' from heat, but never spun one, had almost no cross hatch in the cylinders, less then normal ridge ring for having 300,000 miles on it, always fired right up, used 1 quart of oil between the 3000 mile oil changes, but was down to 13 mpg which was why I pulled it to give it a good look through. Got the truck used and drove it and maintained it for 5 years before yanking the engine. Even when they're 'bad' they're still good.

Always wanted to do this. I'm gonna redo my 91 GMC with paint, interior and a new/rebuilt motor. Why spend 50 grand on a new truck when I have a kit in the driveway?

@UCKgaCSZ5MWpUVv-2NdcxVqg yes...., "brother man."🤔 I've been there, done that...... The anticipation has to, SUCK, dingle berries, like sand through, CONCRETE! What sucks about the, "waiting game" is that it is the, SAME, For this engine as the last one, as well as the next, one! The only thing that sucks worse is the FIRST, initial, "start up", when you/eye am as nervous as a dog schitting a, peach seed. When you KNOW that it only takes 1 bolt, rod cap, main cap, oil pump bolt, either totally, forgotten about, or improperly, torqued, & it's back to squar...... nevermind Gear heads know the, drill... hahaha... hehe. 😉✌❤💯 Good ol', "NEGATIVE Nancy doesnt get entertained by, me, my friend, ...... phuck that cunt! "L👁👁KING 4WARD to a ride along vidya, soon, brother. My comment has accidentally run like, diahreaa, "Again", THANK YOU, DEARLY, for your time boiz & goiylz!! "IF YOU'RE STILL WIMME? You are the, "Beez kneez!" ❤❤❤

@Clay Green Doing the same thing with my 93 K1500. I have redone most of the interior.. My new 40-20-40 front seat will be here in May and then it's just little odds and ends to finish up the inside (glove box door, new map/dome light assembly, color matched sun visors, etc.. Just took the 350 short block to the machine shop yesterday to get cleaned, machined, new pistons if they decide to bore it out (355) new cam/main bearings, threaded oil galley plugs, new freeze plugs, and they're gonna pop in my new cam and timing set for me. Final setup will be: 350 or 355 with 906/062 iron vortec heads, 2.02"intake/1.60"exhaust. Comp Cams XE256H flat tappet: .449/.456 lift, 212/218 duration (@ .05) 112° LSA Long tube headers, GM performance TBI Vortec intake, gonna keep the factory throttle body but rebuild it with new injectors and a 13lb regulator spring. Probably other shit I'm gonna do but I'm off to a great start. I love these 90s GM pickups.

Thank you so much for your very kind and well explained breakdown. I am (finally), re-assembling my '99 Suburbans engine manifold. am 57 years old and really (needed and wanted) to understand the deeper aspects of the engine, as I have never understood it. I now know what the main seal is, what a 2 or 4 bolt main is, what it means to have a spun-bearing and understand what the timing chain is turning. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!.

Very impressed with your attention to detail, the way you show how everything is taken a part, what to look for.I have never taken an engine apart. Thank you for responding back with my question with gasket missing between the throttle body and intake. My other question is what could be causing my truck sometimes bog down when I push down the paddle to give it gas Could the missing gasket from my first question causing it or could the catalytic converter be causing it to bog down like it's not getting enough fuel I've changed fuel pump, filter and everything I could think of relating to fuel

Take a look on the front pad in front of the passenger side cylinder head and look for the suffix code. Look up suffix codes for sbc and see what it was from including the year , sometimes on the rear of the block there will be numbers as well. They can sometimes be difficult to figure out but usually they are there.

One thing that I especially liked is you very smoothly drove home the good practice of ( NOT using the shaft of your 3 lb. hammer or the likes of a 1/2”or 3/4” breaker bar into a intake runner of the int. Jason, I was really really enjoying the video however may I suggest you don't play a radio at the same time it was very distracting. And then for some reason right just before you took the crank out some god-awful music took over and your voice disappeared completely. I needed all the info I could get because I need to do the same project for the first time. I was really hoping you were going to rebuild with vortech heads and show me how to do that I have basically the same motor but want to use vortec heads. I'm looking for the rebuild video now but not find it in your channel?

I apologize for those parts of the video , due to copy right infringement that was the only option I could find at the time when trying to upload the video , there will never be a radio playing in the back ground again. If there is something I can help you with let me know. The engine is at the machine shop and hopefully will be back soon and we will start the build as soon as we have it.

It has 280,000 miles and I'm wondering how much I should do to it before putting it into my project 1964 Chevy C10. I'd really like to see what's involved putting vortec heads on it And what all has to be changed. Carb vs. TBI, intake, cam? etc. Would just like to get from 200 hp to something a little bit more respectable. Thank you for the reply looking forward to your rebuilding video.

love your video! I am hoping to get your opinion on something. I have a chevy 350 that I want to freshen up without machining. I specifically want to replace the main and rod bearings to increase engine longevity. So regarding the rod bearings, can I just replace them, do the clearance checks, and retorque them without having to change the rod bolts/nuts? Its just a stock, average HP late 70' engine that is just a daily driver. Thoughts on this?

Yes , That is unfortunate but it does happen. Make sure to replace cooler and possibly the lines as there will be bearing material all through there and you don't want that in the next engine.

Jack 94.5 , Sir , that is indeed a Regina area station , I had a question about what could be done to warm up a 1995 pr vortec 5.7. I have heard that one needs to be carefull not to put too much into them as it can require computer work on ecm etc , your thoughts ?
@jaysgarage3616
@jaysgarage3616 19 күн бұрын
Sorry for the late reply , that is correct , unless you have a good tuner there is not alot you can do to these engines. Many years ago I tried headers , full exhaust (mistake) TBI spacer , pullies , fuel pressure etc and all made a small difference but not enough to warrant the work ,time or money. They are a good engine and will last for several hundred thousand km as is but are limited by the TBI.

@@jaysgarage3616 I was pondering the idea of using vortec heads and manifold with a 2" bore throttle body and BB injectors , not sure but I would need a tuner , I am near regina but do not know who to see about gettting fuel and ignition curves mapped , it most likely is expensive

This looks like your oil filter is a large one threaded up into the bottom of the engine... Mine goes in from the side, it's a K1500 if that makes a difference but I'm told my engine is a 350 TBI... I've looked for casting numbers, no luck, can't get in an see it...
@jaysgarage3616
@jaysgarage3616 2 жыл бұрын
If the engine was installed in a 4x4 they could have removed the filter and oil filter adapter and installed the adapter for the one like you have and ran the oil filter like that. One of the problems is if there is any debris in the cooler or lines from the engine you replace it could be transferred to the new one , I am doing a swap right now with a cooler adapter and lines and am running this set up. If they clean or replace the rad and lines they can change it back , lots of debris in this one.

Kind of liked the music actually. Mind you I was a rave kid in the late 80s and 90s, and still hit the festivals every summer. In this video the music is such a complete out-of-the-blue surprize that it made me laugh out loud. Also, its a good video, the only thing I would change is that the engine should not have the balancer face the camera, turn it away at a 45 degree angle so we can see what you'redoing.
