I have a 2006 Honda es rancher with 10.000 miles on my still runs great I run it just about every day I also pull a lot of logs and heavy carts of fire wood.

Join the club, I've got mine used and probably have 8000-12000 miles on it, rode it through some dense trails for about 6 hours today and notice some backfiring when engine braking down an extremely steep hill, probably needs a bit of valve adjustment, in the 10yrs I've had it I never had an engine problem except for one time I drove it through water up to the top of the fuel tank. Turns out one of the carb vent tubes had failed and some water got into it causing me to have to rebuild the carb, to be clear it didn't die on me - it just ran rough after that.

they are both great quads, the 400 has push rods for the valves unlike the 300 has a cam lobes moving the valves. push rods are a little more noise but check the lashing it might quiet it down a little. thanks for watching there is more coming once I get off my long work run

Know this is an old video, but thanks, very informative and easy to understand. Just bought an 05 trx350fm and need to adjust both the valves and clutch. Also will only run with choke on full, hoping just needs the carb cleaned. Thanks again, have a new sub.

I had this same issue on my '03 rancher. Your low end jet is clogged shut.

@@Bsonoma yeah, I cleaned the carb earlier today & running good now. Thanks for the reply tho.

Is your rancher hard to shift? I have an 03. It's hard to shift. I guess I'll try clutch adjustment again
@kylethefryan11114 жыл бұрын
It does seem to shift harder than other quads I have driven. I adjusted the clutch & lowered the shift lever a bit. It still seems to "clunk" in to gear harder than others though. Listening to a guy on KZbin that has 2 Honda's, I could hear his clunking to, so maybe that's how Honda's sound. I hadn't driven another Honda since the 80's.

@@kylethefryan1111 this is my 1st honda. And my first 4x4 (which I love) I know it doesn't get more dependable than a Honda but my kids and my elderly father can not shift it. Pretty disappointed
@400EX99N12 жыл бұрын
ITS POSSIBLE. BUT THE RESISTANCE IS SUBTLE, BUT IF ITS GET ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT AND THE QUAD DOSNT MOVE OR HAS NO POWER THE CLUTCH MAY BE GONE. AND THERE IS NO CLUTCH CABLE ON A RANCHER ITS SEMI AUTOMATIC YOU SHIFT ONLY NO CLUTCH HANDLE TO PULL. HOPE THIS HELPS THANKS FOR WATCHING

Hi, want to say I like your videos very informative and well done, my question is as follows - I have a 1988 trx 300 4x4 that I have had since new, it runs great and is quieter than the 2000 forman I picked up, the forman is noisy but has much less mileage. Is the 400 forman motor known to be noisy it sounds like valves or top end ticking whereas my old 300 is very quiet (its not due to great maintenance I can only recall changing the oil in that 88 maybe a half dozen times.

Don’t forget to go back and “actually” tighten down the jam nut. Probably bigger than 12, looked 14 or 9/16

my 350 rancher was idling then started to ting randomly it doesnt use oil but was do for a change i readjusted them and it ran great till the new oil circulated then it died so i readjusted them again and then the same thing it has been sitting for about 3 months till i adjusted the valves it solved the tinging noise but i guess when the oil psi build it tightens them not to seal and no compression causes it to stall and wont start if it sits for a few it fires right up the drive and dies
@400EX99N11 жыл бұрын
you may have too much oil in the crank case or you might not have been on the compression stroke when you set the valves. I would check the oil level and valves it sounds like the valve are tighting up when they get hot and hold the valve open. then it dies
@bombidude12 жыл бұрын
The motor has to be completely cold right to adjust the valves? I adjusted mine but was a tad warm and today i rode it and was quiet until I shut it off. Than I started it and the valves made noises and stopped. Which means the valves are still loose. How do I know my clutch needs to be adjusted? Mine never been done. I have 1200 easy miles.

i changed my oil which was low and readjusted the valves and now it runs like a dream although i guess when loosening it pulled the threads out with one of the bolts it has never been touched before so now i got a stripped bolt that wont tighten causing a basket leak any suggestions on how to fix it?

if you dont adjust your valves you will see a loss in power. running like crap plus it may be hard to start.
@marioncobretti78705 жыл бұрын
The valve adjustment doesnt make sense. Why would you set the play on the exhaust side when its being squeezed. Shouldnt you do the intake side as described then turn the engine over 360 and do the exhaust while its slack.?
