It is situated deep inside the Chambal's ravines and now this fort is in a dilapidated condition. It is situated 35 Km away from the Bhind city and transportation is available from 6 Am to 4 Pm. The main attractions of Ater fort are ‘Khooni Darwaza’, ‘Badan Singh Ka Mahal’, ‘Hathiapor’, ‘Raja Ka Bangla’, ‘Rani Ka Bangla’ and ‘Barah Khamba Mahal’.
Bhadawar was known to be an ancient Bhadravarta kingdom in the Mahabharata era. Mahat Kantar (Hatakant) Vindhyatvi (Ater) as well as Vindhyakanan (Bhind) are its historical witnesses. The Bhadravarta kingdom was known to be a prosperous republic in the Pandava period. The Kshatriyas used to be very rich resources here, the prince over here attended the Yudhishthra Yagna with a huge number of jewels and gold that were offered him a yagna. In the Gopal Tapini Upanishad of Atharvad, Bhadravan is also mentioned in Gopal’s favorite two bons which were located on the banks of the Yamuna river.
