slamit boi, remember Shields said you have to put in each club’s loft. When you open the face and ‘add loft’, the device can’t see that. I believe it’s using the given loft and ball exit speed to estimate distance. Just a thought.

Rick, please try using the SC200 with the bay door open for shots over 170. I suspect that the SC200's single radar needs more data points (flight time) for those faster shots.

I purchased the SC200 with the intent of working on mid-short iron yardage to attack pins by knowing my number with each club. It was great in theory. The 1st time I tried it, I was hitting off a mat into a net. From 5 iron - PW it read 20-30 yards less than I normally hit. The 2nd time I went to the range, hitting to flags from 60-175 yards, it again was 20-30 yards off. The 3rd time I went to the 150 plate and hit into a green. The SC200 was reading 130-138 yards where my pitch marks were 150-160 yards. As for driver, it shows I hit my 6 iron further. That being said I have contacted Voice Caddie and so far they have been more than helpful to try to resolve and recalibrate my device.

Great video Rick, I've had an SC200 for about 6 months and it's great to see this comparison. The "Approach" mode where it gives random distances and scores you on how close you get is really good and makes it competitive... overall, I think it's very good value (works best on a range rather than indoors)

I purchased the SC200 about 1 year ago. The first time I used it was hitting off a mat and into a net. With 4-pw it read about 25 yards less than my typical carry distance. The 2nd time I used it I took it to the range and hit to flags from 60-180 yards. Again the SC200 read about 25 yards less. The 3rd time I tried it I took it to my home course and set it next to the 150 yard plate and hit into a green. My pitch marks were generally on the green and the SC200 was reading in the 130's. I contacted Voice Caddie and they had me do a system reset which did not make it better so they had me send the device to them. They claim they tested the device and found no flaws with it but they did send me a new one. Upon receiving the new one I set it up per the instructions and took a few practice swings which it said carried about 80 yards on average, the old one didn"t read practice swings so I thought "woohoo this is good". I went out and was hitting at a target known to be 150yds only to get an average reading of 118yds. With that being said, Voice Caddie customer service was great. Quick to respond and replace the device. I am happy that it works accurately for some but obviously it does not for me.

SkyTrak is a pretty good photometric devise, but you are likely looking at $1,600 for the devise only. There are many levels of cost and really depends on what you want. If you go top level, you need to add mat, screens, nets, software for courses, number of courses you want, etc- all that can costs about $6,000. There are plenty of reviews out there to Google.

Yeah I had a skytrak but sold it. It doesn’t work well with driver, but worked great with irons. And I agree, it sometimes didn’t pick up shots. The biggest drawback for me is you need a dedicated gaming laptop/computer to get the good software. The software with the iPad was not good at all. You can’t even play multiplayer with the simulation software on iPad. It overall wasn’t really worth the price for me. Paid about 3,000 for net, mat, and device. Save your money and get lots of lessons from pros.

I actually bought this monitor about a year ago. I love it! as Rick implied, it does have some imperfections, but there is a setting on it for pitch shots between 50-100 yards that is fun on the range and gives good feedback. it does get confused on some shots at longer ranges, but based on the feel of the ball off of the clubface, you can tell its wrong. what Rick didn't tell you, is that it tracks data and will give you average carry, low carry, long carry, and also total distance, low distance, high distance seen by each club in your bag. It's $350, take it for what its worth, and that's the feedback. not a bad unit all in all! Great video Rick! keep up the good work!

I think I'm going to buy one (or similar), the local course has a GC2 for more advanced analysis, but I go to the range 1-2 times a week and I really like the idea of something like this to spice things up a bit, even if it has limited use. I can also try different swing paths etc and get some idea of how that impacts the shot as my game is far from settled due to being new. My only concern is this unit has been out for 3 years! and there must be something better out there for a sub £500 price point. If not now, very soon, in which case, these units will likely crash in value. There is a MEVO from flightscope too, which costs a bit more, but its newer, my only concern with that unit is I believe you have to put metal dots on the ball similar to GC2+HMT so I don't fancy that. For those looking at a cheaper alternatives of similar ilk, try researching the ES12, or the SC100. They are cheaper and might provide similar grade results and definitely lower prices. Especially if you can get a 2nd hand unit. There is an ES14 unit too which was 700+ a few years ago (now around the 400 mark), so you would think that would still be an upgrade over this for not a load more money.

Awesome video Rick. I actually purchased this unit based on the advice from Clay Ballard who also recommended it and put it up against his Trackman. However, he didn't go into the detail regarding the longer yardage shots and I also wondered why I couldn't seem to increase my swing speed, or when I did, the SC wouldn't change the distance, it pretty much hovered around 250 yards. Yesterday it actually tracked one of my driver hits at 333 yards with the same swing speed. Having said that though, it has helped me tremendously with my irons as that is where I believe the most important shots are in our bag. Everyone wants to crush 300 yard drives, but those make no difference if you can't choose the proper club for the right distance to the pin and I've found that the SC does that for me. I would recommend that folks use this device each time they go to the range as it does seem to do a pretty good job when the weather changes, so for instance when it's cold, the ball doesn't travel as far and I could see my distances were shorter on colder days with the SC. Also, if it's really hot or sunny, I found I have to place my bag near the unit for shade as it will shut down if it gets too hot. But that is no different that any piece of electronic just like a cell phone. All in all, I love my SC and it has helped me immensely not only knowing my distances, but giving me the confidence when I'm hitting the shot. That is priceless when playing a par three or shot over water where you need to carry the ball an exact distance to avoid the hazard, yet land on the green. Thanks again for your review!

I have the older SC100 Voice Caddy and I love it. The remote works from at least four feet away so I wonder if you were just too close to it. You can use it hitting in a cage or into a net and you can also take it to the driving range. It gives you carry distance only and does not track side-spin on the ball but it gives enough feedback to be worth it for me, mainly distance, swing speed, and ball speed.

I own the sc220 and have tested the it against a Trackman and had excellent results with the driver which was within 2 mph swing speed. This test was done on a range rather than inside. My issue with the unit is with wedges. I fine that the readings are about 10 yards longer than known distances when hitting full or less than full shots. You cannot hit open face shots since you are changing the launch angle. Expensive launch monitors measure true launch angle where the SC220 relies on the user entered club loft for launch angle. Overall for $300 (what I paid) it is an excellent produce. I use it to experiment with different swings trying to increase speed as well as working on maintaining a consistent swing speed with irons.
@chrisplona1502
@chrisplona1502 5 жыл бұрын
I think it is important to understand that the SC200 is only measuring club head speed and ball speed. It doesn't "know" anything about the path that the ball has taken after leaving the clubface. It seems to just calculate a carry distance based on the loft of the club (which the user inputs) i.e. "A ball hit properly off the face of a club with a 28 degree loft at 110 mph will travel "X" yards" But it doesn't know if you hit it thin or fat. Or as Rick pointed out, if you de-lofted or added loft to your club. It only knows ball speed. This works well for golfers who pretty consistently hit the ball with a solid, center of the clubface, strike. For high handicappers with inconsistent ball strikes it is pretty useless. I am a 32 handicap, bought one thinking it could help me dial in the distances on my irons, it was not up to that job. But I gave it to a 7 handicap friend of mine in Thailand. She absolutely loves it because it accurately measures and projects the distance of a "well-struck" golf ball.

Coming back to leave a review for you (and really anyone else who is here) about the Swing Caddie. Got one over the spring and used it in my garage during the pandemic when courses were closed (and the weather was awful) here in Chicago. Well I've finally taken it to the course and can't believe my eyes.....this thing has been spot on three out of four times! I mean, seriously. We scoped a par 3 at 143 yesterday, the Swing Caddie voiced "147" and I said there was no way because I really thought I hit my 8-iron short. Low and behold: the ball was four paces past the hole. I lipped out the birdie putt but not the point, at least here. For the $250 I think I paid, the Swing Caddie is awesome. Use at a driving range it can really help people dial in distances. And no, I don't work for the company:)

This is so easy to research. This will answer your questions: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnjHmoxsfdR1sKc In short, a radar based system is best used outside where the radar can track the ball longer. GC Quad is photometric (which uses cameras to obtain data as the ball is struck) and therefore distance to net makes no difference. I recommend you subscribe to TGG Tour Experience whose golf videos are a Gold Standard of KZbin golf sites.

The Flightscope Mevo costs $450 (currently offered $50 off), and adds additional data to what the SC200 offers. However, the set-up for Mevo is considerably more complicated and necessary for accuracy. I got the SC200 because I just want to set the unit down and practice without putting on stickers, re-aligning for every club and insuring I hit the ball from the exact distance called for. Here is a Mevo review: practical-golf.com/flightscope-mevo-review/

I Bought the swing caddie for myself at the beginning of this summer. I absolutely love it. I use it at my driving range cause the range doesn’t have the best distance markers and everything I’ve seen has been basically dead on. The only times it’s super far off is if you duff a shot, hit a flop shot, catch it extremely thin, or hit a stinger. I hit my driver about 260 and it works like a charm for all my longer clubs. I think it just needs more time to get a read on the ball because of how fast the ball travels off the long clubs

I purchased a swing caddie (well my wife did as a birthday present) ☺️ my swing speeds are not as quick as yours and found it to be pretty accurate. There was a discrepancy of about 2-3yds with my Bushnell range finder, a mate stood down the bottom of our practice area and read the distance back from the pitch mark (wet ground) so for me it works well big thumbs up 👍

I tried a few low end launch monitors like this one, including The Flight Scope Mevo which was very accurate, but the ball data wasn’t very valuable to me without club data. Having ball data is like knowing the effect but not knowing the cause. Ball data is a nice to have but club data is a must have for game improvement. I ended up buying the GC2 with HMT and it’s been a game changer for my golf game. I’ve dropped 5 strikes in 3 months.

I have owned this for a year. I like it. You didn't talk about the modes. One thing I have used it for is to lock in a distance and hit high, low and regular shots to that number. There is a game (points) mode for that. Also random distance mode (points game) is nice change of pace on the range. And I get what you are saying about the driver. But forget all that. For the driver, I only pay attention to the club head speed. For me, at least, driver can kill a hole. Driving is about being consistent and controlled, not long. I will gladly give up distance for fairways hit. I can swing a driver 115 but loose control consistency. My best consistency seems to be between 107 & 110. So when I practice and when I warm up the driver, I try to find that range of club head speed and the rest takes care of itself. Cheers Rick, great video.

I bought one today and went straight to the range. However before the purchase I had a session with the pro at golf galaxy and established distances, club speed and ball speed. Then went to the range and found the numbers to be very similar. The main benefit I found was establishing a consistent swing speed which made the rest of the swing elements more consistent. Next test will be on the course where I’ll test distances against gps.

I have the SC200 and I find it quite accurate for me from 30 yds to 250 +, my swing speed and smash factor currently doesn't translate much beyond that. I'm working on that. But it has definitely helped me realize I was very weakly gapped between 9 thru 7 iron, my 8 iron was very inconsistent. I kept thinking that I could always hit my 8 iron 150yds out on the course, but the SC200 showed me on average that I was mostly under clubbing myself. The smash factor is huge in helping you realize you're not hitting the ball as efficiently as you should. I highly recommend this device out on a well measured driving range. I found it to be very accurate as long as you were making a good pass at the ball. You can tell when you flush it and the Swing Caddie will confirm it by showing you a good smash factor. Now armed with some meaningful averages for my clubs, I make much better club selections for the distances needed. PS: You may have to play with where you set the device behind you on your swing path a little to get the best results. Also the quality of the range balls you're hitting can negatively impact accuracy, but on average I think it does a good job. Would that we all could hit a 500 bucket of brand new PRO VIs whenever we go to the range.

Great video Rick! I have the SC200 and I have had similar results to yours when I tested shots that I could actually see down on the range. Shots up to about 150-160 were very close but longer ones were way off. I would like to see you test the Flightscope Mevo in a similar way. I have considered getting one as they retail here in the US for around $500 and I have seen a couple preowned available for $350. They seem to have more data including spin and launch angle which I think would be very useful for the low to mid handicap golfer when practicing.

I purchased one very recently as an early Christmas present for myself. I'm VERY happy with the unit but I have 3 small quibbles you didn't cover in your video. First the unit is limited to a 60 degree maximum. I carry a 64 degree wedge. Second the unit doesn't come with some kind of protective case or even a padded drawstring bag. I don't want to scuff it up when I stuff it in my bag to go down to the range for a practise session. In fact, I leave it in my bag all the time so I improvised a cover for it. Third, I find the screen a bit dim. A brightness control feature would be nice. I passed my comments on to the Swing Caddie people and they replied almost instantly. That was nice. They told me there is a new model coming out next year that would address my issues. I never thought of testing it with flop shots. For me those are short enough so that I use my laser rangefinder to measure my distances. So I'm not seeing that as an issue at all. All in all, for the price I give it 4.5 stars out of 5

I have the SC200... it's really enjoyable to use! Things Rick hasn't gone into is the "target" or "approach" modes. Target= you set a distance (ex. 135 yrds) then have 10 shots to hit that distance and get points based on how close you get [it's a game]. And "approach" mode is 40-100 yards. It gives you a distance, you have one shot at it... and gives you points based on distance away from the objective. So it really aids in your shorter wedges and "feels" for the approach shots. What this product doesn't do "well" with is either off centered hits ( shanky toe or heel strikes = lower ball speeds and different launch angles) and bad face angle hits (pretty open/closed faces). AKA it ALWAYS assumes a perfect strike... so it displays (predicts) well struck, relatively straight ball flights. SOOOO... if you shank it repeatedly, it won't be accurate. If you hit it pretty well and would like an idea of your ball striking (smash factor) it does well. Gaping clubs should be done with a high end device... but it's good enough for an mid-average handicap like me. It makes practicing enjoyable!

At my local course the pro uses a GCQuad. The information from that kit is more extensive and [with manually applied tiny stickers on the club] will tell you whether you are hitting the ball with an open or closed face, whether your club path is in to out/out to in, what the dynamic as opposed to the fixed static loft of the particular club is and which part of the club face hits the ball i.e., how far from the sweet spot you are. Essentially the SC200, it seems, tells you how far you are hitting the ball but not whether you could be wasting effort by not making your swing more efficient. After all, if you are adding dynamic loft to your club face, then that effort in getting your ball into the air an extra 30/40 feet is at the expense of distance along the fairway and no one in golf gets points for style!
