Stunning. I've been overwhelmed with renovating our “new to us” home: four kids, three dogs, and a husband. I can't imagine not having a functioning kitchen. The idea of “manageable chunks” is a good idea. Although it bothers me to have half-done things, I much prefer that over an undone house.

I absolutely love that you, a woman, DIY yourself. 4 months is nothing compared to the 25 years I waited for my Daddy to build me a captain's bed. I ended up having to buy one with my first 23 paychecks. He was a good carpenter in his youth. He built model ships & airplanes, wooden valances for 4 windows in the house he started buying in 1955. After I graduated college he bought expensive tools to do woodworking in retirement. (Mama even subscribed to woodworking magazines for the next 20 years.) But he never got around to enjoying those tools, because he was my Mama's care giver for several years. Then when she passed he sorta gave up. He is 100 years old now, dying in a Veterans Home because my Sister & I are too old & feeble to care for him. So I salute you for doing that job, even if it took you 4 months. Funny how your man & kids insisted on eating several times a day. Delayed cabinetry refinishing. It is amazing how you finished at all. Thank you for proving a woman can accomplish what your man wouldn't even attempt. GOD BLESS you & yours!

I just saw the TikTok video of your Kitchen redo and it looks fabulous. I was so glad to see that you had taken off the doors and prepped well before painting!! To many videos out there with folks not really prepping, and they wonder why the paint won't stick or last. It's all about the prep. I've also used AquaCoat to fill the grain in my oak cabinets, great stuff. Best part of this video is your tenacity to try all aspects of the redo. I'll be 70 this year and still doing renovation and woodworking (since my 20s). Every project you learn something new and It's the satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself. GREAT JOB and I'll keep watching. I also love my SawStop!!

You are so inspirational, I've been working on diy drapes, curtains and finally after three years have figured out what look I like after many tears. Everything is handdone no special tools, cause I haven't had any help. I realized today you don't have to do everything at once. And it's perfectly fine to make mistakes. That is how you learn. But premeasuring is a great tip.

Bravo! Looks great! And I am a big fan of scratch and dent appliances! I discovered how awesome they are during the pandemic when the Big Box store was 4 months late delivering my new washer and dryer! I went to a scratch and dent place and paid half the price which included shipping and they delivered SAME DAY! No one knows it's not brand new. Way to save! You did a fantastic job!

Wow. That was quite the project, and it totally paid off. It could have been an even simpler project, but you added a lot of character, upgrades, and functionality to the space. If someone doesn't have as much money, time, and expertise as you do, a little paint and smaller changes can still make a huge difference!

I have watched this DIY makeover video over 10 times... again. I watched it when you first posted it, n many months ago. I am inspired by your decisions and talked to my SIL about remodeling my kitchen as well. Also removing drywall between the dining room and living room so everything is open. My granddaughter gave me this idea. She mentioned she wants to see me (she has anxiety) so she will help remove drywall. SIL said he could put in a header to open the space more and I said it's a load bearing wall and the support beams have worked this whole time so best not to mess with the original support. I'll box out each support beam to dress it up. The house has hardwood floors so I'll patch where needed then sand and stain. My project before Thanksgiving.
@Herschel1738 Жыл бұрын
I've redone several of those ceilings decorated with the swirls made with drywall mud. Usually the easiest is to use a new, clean garden sprayer to wet it in sections with water, then scrape the softened mud off with a wide paint scraper/putty knife. It comes off in nice swaths, so make sure to have plastic sheeting to catch the mess. After it is dry, you will probably have to patch & sand it smooth but it is less work & dust than sanding those fat swirls down to the level of the ceiling. If the ceiling has ever been painted with an oil based paint, this may be harder to do, as the surface will be more waterproof.

I love that you don’t feel you need to accomplish with is a weekend. I think some people are scared to start projects b/c it will take so long. But when you look back you could have finished a project that you would have loved, all within that time. I have been holding off a lot of things feeling that I need to accomplish them all at once instead of doing it in stages. It could be the upper cabinets on one wall. 1 week. And then maybe the lower cabinet the next month. And then the tile the week or 2 after that.
