I had a blast recording this, thank you so much to both Jon and the team at TrainerRoad. Glad to share my experiences with those that want to hear them. Always here for anyone who may have any questions 🙃

Was a good listen that jozsef, I'm from mid wales👍 just started TR myself, was going to use plan builder but not got a set goal/timescale, so thought I'd just do 2 base plans and maybe a build and see how that goes
@jozsefevans68764 жыл бұрын
@@chrisbowe3689 great to hear mate! I absolutely love mid Wales, especially Elan Valley area! Can't go wrong focusing on base, however prior to my 'goals' I would just set a date to peak for. For instance I used April/May as I wanted to be fit for the nice weather :D don't necessarily need to have a specific date/event to utilise that feature. Good luck with the training!

@@jozsefevans6876 Nice to know if the ftp increase related outdoors or just made you a fitter indoor rider? ( guess I will find out myself)
I relate with this guy so much haha really like these interviews much better than the pros for some reason.

Your Pro podcasts are really good, but for whatever reason I was hooked on this one even more. Such common themes of a persons journey into cycling and I loved listening to his story. Good work TR.

Thank you very much! Man I must have had porridge every day for breakfast now for months! My current favourite is with vanilla protein powder, raspberry jam, blueberries and some seed/dry fruit mix 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Wow! 300 WT before structural training😳 that’s amazing. Kudos to this guy👍🏼 I guess now we all can see the benefits of strength training 💪🏼

Theres no doubt I had established a fairly solid foundation before I leapt into the world of structured training. Its certainly not essential though!

Just got a new Kickr and I'm getting into indoor cycling. I usually ride outside about 100 miles per week, mostly commuting. I'm currently giving zwift a try for 30 days. I figure I'll try a bunch of the different platforms a try. I'm looking forward to trying out trainerroad. The podcast is really great and I've learned a lot about structured training from these podcasts. This is the first time I've seen my power numbers since I don't have a power meter on my road bike yet. Looks like my FTP is somewhere in the 200-220W area for one hour. I can get pretty close to 500W in a sprint without getting out of the saddle. So with all that background, what sort of improvement could I reasonably expect to achieve with some proper structured training. Is a sub 4hr century within the realm of possibility on a TT bike? I'm 5'10" 165lbs BTW.

Its such a personal thing..you really couldn't guess at it. TrainerRoad offers a money back 30 day offer. Do the ramp test before and after committing to a solid block of training and the numbers will speak for themselves. I had a significant bump in my FTP following my first block of structured training.

Hey TR and Josef. You briefly touched on being around 95kg and 300w ftp now 83kg(ish?) And 350ftp. What was the timeline on this and what were the biggest changes you made in between these weights? Great podcast and guest, really enjoyed this one guys!

Surprised to hear you talk about current yearly "mileage", what's your ratio of indoor to outdoor work?
@jozsefevans68764 жыл бұрын
I spend a significant amount of time on the trainer but I'd estimate the vast majority is indeed outside. I target my 'intense' workouts on the trainer. Anything that I can realistically do without compromising too much time in zone etc is done outside. Outside of my prescribed workouts I also do as much riding outdoors.
@whitehorseflyer4 жыл бұрын
@@jozsefevans6876 hi, thanks for taking the time to reply, it's reassuring that you're not counting the indoor "miles". What racing do you do, if any?
@jozsefevans68764 жыл бұрын
@@whitehorseflyer I don't particularly 'count' any miles if I'm honest. I'm all about the performance. Yea Strava looks cool if you hit 'X' miles annually but I'm purely fitness and FTP/w/kg driven. I don't currently race although I had hopes to in 2020, this will now hopefully happen in 2021. I've never gone through a winter/off-season before so I'm looking forward to making the most of that. Numbers are there, but for racing I'm purely looking to learn the racecraft side of things and develop that over the next few years. Hopefully I can be somewhat competitive within the next few years.

great progress well done. Does anyone here struggle to keep the FTP wattage more than 30min? I find that with a ramp test I get a higher FTP value
@scotth33544 жыл бұрын
Stephen Banavage lots of people do. If a ramp test is inflating your FTP, try either a 20min test, or preferably an hour test.
@TrainerRoad4 жыл бұрын
A *lot* of folks have trouble pacing consistently for 30 minutes (or even 20!) which is why we designed the Ramp Test! If you feel the number calculated is too high and hard to maintain, you can always manually adjust it, or try an 8 or 20 minute FTP test if you feel like you're able to pace consistently for that duration of time!
