350z 8 pin to 6 pin headlight conversion

Start Tutorial: 2:15
In this video i explain step by step how to depin both headlight connections AND how to remove the 6 pin connector from your halogen headlight assemblies and how to put it on the upgraded Bi-Xenon housings. Doing this will allow you to plug the Bi-Xenon housings right into the factory harness without any cutting or soldering.

So I have a 2005 350z 35th anniversary edition with the older model headlights, but I believe they have the HID bulbs because the brightness grows when I turn them on for the first time. Will I be able to just swap this newer 06+ headlight housing in? Plug an play

Yeah if they are HID’s it’s plug and play, but you will have to put your current ballasts and igniter onto the new headlights

Hey man! Great Video! What about the parking light? i mean the little bulb on the side next/under the headlight. Is it working too? In the Video u dont have it on. And is it possible to turn of the orange leds on the side?

Yes that little bulb works! I just don’t like the way it looks when it’s on so I left it empty. As for those drl leds... I’m not sure. I suppose you could do it by not putting the drl wire in the connector. But I can’t remember which wire that is. So just leave one unplugged one at a time (so you don’t mix up the pins) and test till you find out which wire is the drl

Personally I would send them back and get the depos cause I think they’re the best looking headlight for the 350z But you can definitely swap from an 8pin to a 6pin. Just do the opposite when I start swapping the pins over the 8pin

It should come with the ballast! And if I remember correctly the igniter doesn’t come with headlights! So make sure whatever ballasts you buy come with the igniter

i want to install the bixenon headlights too but the only thing its my plug does have the 6 pin connector and bixenon are 8's so. i know i can witch the 8 pin connector plug to a 6 pin connector plug but the signal lamp switch has 3 wires.. the blue color will not be connected on the 6 pin connector plug. so i am asking if the signal lamp will work on the 6 pin connector plug without the blue wire?

If you have factory HID’s then your car has the 8pin If you have factory halogens then you’re gonna have the 6pin

Alr Bro I just bought these Depo Headlights and don’t have ballasts my nissan is an 05 the first day only the driver side headlight worked perfect but the passenger side didn’t and the nxt day nothing worked so I disconnected everything and plugged again only the turn signals work I checked my fuses everything seems to be alright any idea what else can be wrong?

It depends on which ones you buy. The depo lights I bought looked different because the insides were painted black. As for your plug and play question. If you already have factory HID’s on your z then it will be plug and play. If you don’t then you will need to follow the steps in the vid!

You can’t use halogens on these headlight housings. They require the use of d2s hid bulbs. But yes if you did buy the housings you would have to use your original ballasts and bulbs if you had them.

The adapters are a hit or miss. Most adapters are pinned in the wrong order so you might need to repin the adapters in the correct order for them to work. (What i had to do)

I installed halo eye lights to my 05 350z and my turn signals are really dim. Does anyone know why this is happening? I already checked the fuses and replaced the bulbs. It’s like it’s not getting enough power plus the multiple lights in the bottom that look like spider eyes don’t turn on just my low beams and high beams work fine. Does anyone know why this is happening? Do I need a separate adapter that give more watts to the blinker lights or something? Please if anyone knows lmk.

I’m really not sure. I never installed halos into my headlights. But seeing as how I or anyone else don’t know how the halos were wired to get power it would be really difficult to pinpoint what the issue is. Best bet is to work backwards on your install or go to a shop!

What’s the wattage for the ballasts? If I wanted to use the 55w, is it still the same process?

I believe oem ballasts are rated for 35w, I don’t think there are 55w oem ballasts for the Z’s but I could be wrong there. But even if you get an aftermarket 55w ballast you’ll still have to buy the OEM ballast to cover the hole where it’s supposed to go. Unless you can find something else to put there instead that would prevent moisture from getting in the headlight.

My issue is that i have a 6 pin headlight and a 6 pin harness from the car, but the cars connector has been cut off on the drivers side and hardwired in, so i have no idea which wires go where.

Your best bet is to look for an oem wiring schematic and match the colors

Alex Bernabe if you’re coming from halogens then yes you will have to source the ballasts as you won’t have them for your halogens! I linked everything I used to do my conversion from halogen to HIDS.

My factory harness is 6 pin and the headlights i keep buying for it are all 8 pin. Giving me a headache. I only need to replace 1 headlight. Id swap the harness but they stole it with the headlight.

That’s annoying. Since they stole the harness too I’d say just get another halogen headlight assembly so you can keep it 6pin. Then go to a pick a part and find the harness

I need help with mine I have spec d halo and the problem with mine is when I turn on my headlights both turning signals stay on and flash fast when ever u switch left or right do you have a solution? I’m not sure, I’ve never used an adapter before. But as long as the 6 pin end on the adapter is a female end and the 8 pin end is a male end I suppose it could work. Let me know how it goes I’m curious if it works!

Not sure. I remember reading on the 350Z forum that there was an option offered but for some reason the headlights didn’t work after adding in the adapter. They believed it had something to do with resistance, but that was well over 5 years ago. There could be a better option out there now

Devon Rocchio I just had this same issue. You can go in reverse order and use the 8 pin from your old headlights to replace the 6 pin on the new one and it’ll work like a charm

No the city light. Same light as the signal only they stay on when you turn your headlights on. Just want to have the HID and the side 3 LED lights on when i turn my lights on.

That should be how it is already, the “city lights” are the LED’s and the little bulb that’s located underneath the headlight. To stop that from being on I just don’t have a bulb in there. The turn signal shouldn’t be lit when your headlights are on.

I don’t, it’s best to follow it by the PIN numbers that I mention because different aftermarket headlights could have different colors

You pulled the wires out of the six pin connector and need to put them back in the six pin connector? The only reason to pull the pins is if you’re going from a six pin to an eight pin connector or vice versa. Unfortunately I don’t know the place they go in by color of wire. Your best bet is to look on a forum and search for a wiring diagram.

S.R.Global if you’re converting from HID’s to Halogens you’ll have to take the 8 pin male ends off and put them on your halogen headlight assemblies. This is because the actual harness in the car is an 8 pin female connector

S.R.Global you already have the male 8 pin connectors as your car requires it. So you take off the male ends that are attached to the headlight assemblies and put them on the new headlight assemblies. Since you’re wanting to from HID’s to halogens you won’t need the 6 pin connector on the new headlights you got as you’re swapping the 8 pin over from the HID Headlights!

Fairlady LindZ also do you know which pin controls the turn signals because I can test it to see which one blinks using volt meter and that can tell me which is out of order...when I turn the blinkers on with just parking light on the bulb will blink but also the led lights blink too and when I turn on the regular light and put on turn signal the bulb will barely blink and the back light blink really fast like when you have to change the bulb..what do you think

Hey guys, The wiring layout is posted below: 03 non-HID (This is looking into the plug on the headlight) 6 Pins labeled like below 1 2 3 4 5 6 1 - Black (Ground for Low and High Beams) 2 - Light Green (Positive for High Beam) 3 - Green\Black (Positive for Turn Signal) 4 - Red (Positive for Low Beam) 5 - Green\White (Positive for Parker lights) 6 - Black (Ground for Parkers and Turn Signal) This is the layout for both sides... 06 Bi-Xenon Pin out (This is looking into the plug on the headlight) 8 Pins labeled like below 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1 - Black (Ground for Low and High Beams) 2 - Light Green (Positive for High Beam) 3 - Green\Black (Positive for Turn Signal) 4 - Red (unknown) 5 - Black (Ground for Parkers and Turn Signal) 6 - Red (Positive for Low Beam) 7 - Green\White (Positive for Parker lights) 8 - Blue (unknown) This layout is the same for both sides... pin 4 and pin 8 : these are used to tilt the projector up slightly when the high beams are activated. So you went from an 8 pin to a six pin so assuming your wire colors are the same on your 8 pin this is how the pin positions should go into the 6 pin. Black wire should be Pin#1 Light green should be Pin#2 Green/black should be Pin#3 Second black wire should be Pin#6 Red wire should be in Pin#4 Green/white wire should be Pin#5 So you should have 2 wires left because you came from an 8pin to a 6 pin. Cap them off so they don’t get any charge. Now notice you have two black wires. Look at the guide and see if the things that correspond with those wire work. If not switch them because you might have got them mixed up. Same goes for the two red wires. Check and see if it works. If not swap the red wires. For the red wires one won’t be used at all.

so i have a stock 03 350z my car didnt came Xenon Ballast. so i had to buy 2 and i had bought some depo costume made demon lights. and person that bought it from he told me that i need to change all the wiring just to make it work from my car which sucks

If he had to change the wiring to make it work for your car he should’ve made it a six pin connector instead of an 8 pin. If he didn’t you’re going to have to find out how he wired it and see if the pin positions are still the same. If he says they are then you can just follow the video exactly!
