Purpose of these Games;
In many textbooks, CLILL is the essential part to teach ESL and to young learners, numbers are a part of it. Mostly it seems easy to teach numbers and sometimes kids are already familiar with counting but you still have enough time to utilize the time. so you need some interesting games to practice numbers and counting to enjoy the class.
In this video, you can see the top 9 interesting games for counting and numbers lessons. you can use it to practice math, and have fun with kids.
Note;
Please note that you can use common sense and modify the games according to the situation, I mean content, English level, space, materials, time duration, number of students, lesson objectives, student age, nature of the kids and lesson, etc...
How To Play?
The games are quite easy to understand and I have written the important tips on each frame. I can still elaborate on them here again in case you need more explanation.
Game # 9; Numbers Hug Game
When the Music stops, the teacher calls out any random number like 3, and 3/3 kids get together and hug.
Game # 8: Pass The Cups
Have them (2 teams ) sit in a line. Give them pencils/chopsticks, and they pass the cups one by one. and check which team got more.
Game # 7: Number Buzz
Have them all sit in a circle, and choose a number let's say 17. They start counting numbers. The one who says 17, all will stand and act as bees and say Buzzzz.
Game # 6: Balls-Cups
place an equal number of cups on both sides. Get some ping-pong balls in a box, and place them in the middle. 2 kids from both teams compete and get one ball at a time to the cups. when the music stops, have them count and check which pair got more balls.
Game # 5: Hoops-Flashcards
Place the words flashcards on the floor and place blocks or toys on each card. Students will throw the hoop and answer the question.
Game # 4: Dice Numbers
Divide them into teams. Each student will roll the dice and get points for his team. to make it more interesting, If the dice land on 1 they get 60 points but if landed on 6 they get 10 points while 2=20, 3=30, 4=40, and 5=50...
Game # 3: Chopsticks Challange
Divide them into teams, they use chopsticks or pencils to get coins/blocks or bottle caps and put them in their team's box then hand over the chopsticks to the next person in his team and continue.
Game # 2; Blocks Dice
Divide them into 2 teams. Get some building blocks. One by one both teams will roll the dice, and get blocks for their teams. In the end, count which team got more points.
Game # 1: Dice points.
Divide your students into two teams. roll the dice and get multiple 10 points on board. like 1=10, 2=20 ..... 6=60
and count at the end, which team got more points.
