I'm always so soothed by how chill you are and how you're able to really slow down and enjoy small peaceful moments of solitude on the train or in one of your camping vehicles. You have the power to keep yourself comfortable and entertained without needing someone else there for validation and it's really relatable. Riding the train is so relaxing, it's like a 24 hour reason to just spend some time by yourself and read a book or play a game, I think more people would ride Amtrak if they just had some patience. Sometimes the journey is also part of the destination! It's always nice to enjoy the little things.

Loved your video. It was more enjoyable than some because it wasn't loud, and you didn't talk excessively. I've traveled tens of thousands of miles on Amtrak all over the country, sometimes coach and sleeping in my seat, and sometimes in a sleeper. I just love train travel. Some tips: always travel with ear plugs, a sleeping mask for your eyes, your own snacks, and a handy jacket. Be prepared to arrive late everywhere you go, so make sure you have adequate RX for a couple of extra days. I've been on trains that were held up by floods, tornadoes and accidents. Once our train had to back up for about four hours to pick up an alternate track. I have met some amazing people on the train and once I learned how to prepare myself, would not change a thing. It's all an adventure.

An adventure indeed but such a shame we don't have better rail infrastructure and such. I love the beauty of the American terrain and modern rail travel either much better accommodation would be wonderful. Some day, I hope.

@@lina-yw5kh As an American who has traveled the world, I have come to peace that the 'American Experiment' has ended. We simply don't have the same quality of wealthy statesmen/stateswomen who have the vision and will to ask, 'why can't we build a cross country modern high-speed rail system to rival the world?' and make it their gift to this nation. A gift that would live in perpetuity.

The garbage in your premium sleeper accommodation is unacceptable. You should report it to Amtrak with a video clip of it so they can rectify their cleaning situation in Chicago. Amtrak at the very least should issue a voucher. Your video is very thorough. Thanks for taking the time to do it and sharing it.
@zearraki2529 Жыл бұрын
I really enjoy the chill vibes of the video and commentary. There's honesty without excessive complaining which is refreshing. That being said you're completely right. The accommodations are unacceptable. The idea of booking a sleeper train sounds great, but the U.S. hasn't prioritized this type of travel. When looking up this exact trip on Amtrak I'm seeing a price of over $500 as well as many unavailable travel days. Sad to see.
@cowgba Жыл бұрын
@@zearraki2529 I was thinking the same thing. I thought it might be cool to take a trip on a sleeper train after seeing one of his other videos, but when I looked up prices it was minimum $1500 one-way for a 2 day trip ($2500 for one of the larger rooms), and that's booking several months in advance on a train currently at 0% capacity. For that price and such a tiny cabin, I would expect everything to be extremely clean and well maintained. I just can't justify spending minimum $3000 round trip to sacrifice 4 full days of my vacation in a cramped and questionably-clean cabin, I would either need to take 2 full weeks off work to make it worth it or take the train one way and fly the other. To make matters worse, driving would somehow be significantly faster even with a stop at a nice hotel halfway to the destination. It's a shame because some of the views are beautiful and there's something very cozy and relaxing about riding a train overnight to an unfamiliar city, but they'd have to cut prices by 2/3 before I could ever seriously consider it.

I recently took a train trip from Seattle to the Grand Canyon. The scenery was beautiful and the food.. Reasonable. My favorite breakfast, French Toast. Also, I was thankful that they had an open bar. Spent most of my time in the Observation car. Met a lot of really cool people. The Amish families travel by train quite often. This one group of young women played cards for hours! College. I also met a couple of older retired men who were fascinating to talk to. I also am retired. We corresponded for while but that didn't last long. One guy spent a lot of his time bicycling around the world! Anyway, the Grand Canyon was magnificent! Amtrak planned the whole trip for me, then sent the itinerary to me. There were a few glitches, but they assured me everything would be fine. And yes, there were delays and detours. Like you said, Amtrak rents the tracks and the freight trains rule. Many hours of delays. My trip was supposed to be six days but ended up being seven. Suffice it to say, I will probably never travel by train again. OK, maybe just for one day... By the way, I had a roommette. It was comfortable. But the shower was a separate room. The water wasn't even Luke warm. Meeting people was the best part of my journey. Gerrie

While passengers don't want to hear this, the freight is much, much more important for the American economy than having passengers arrive sooner. Just a few short years ago there were major shortages during the pandemic with stores shelves being empty due to a backlog at American sea ports. I remember shopping for baby formula everywhere within a hundred miles when my daughter couldn't find any for my grand daughter... Without any doubt whatsoever, COMMERCE trumps passengers...

Traveling by train is such a beautiful and peaceful experience especially if you can travel in the rooms on the Amtrak its pure leisure bliss and the views are so relaxing you get to see so much and its fun to wave at people as you go by. The only downside is sometimes the passenger trains have to wait long wait times stalled to wait for a cargo train to pass by. If the Amtrak were to prioritize passenger trains first it would definitely be a game changer.

You have to compare long distance train travel to long distance car travel: both allow you to bring a lot of luggage and take a similar amount of time. And in the train you have someone driving for you and can sleep and work without stopping for the night. The coach seats are pretty comfy and cheap, but if you want to sleep in a flat bed you can pay for a room. Also many people are not allowed to drive or fly or live in small communities far from major airports. And you don't get the same views from the train than from a plane. So it's good to travel by train at least once per route

I have a really messed up back so I take the Amtrak from central MO to Chicago from time to time to catch rock/metal concerts. It's really comfy, it may take longer but it sure beats driving. I never did the sleeper since that trip is only about 6 to 7 hours but I am sure IF you can spare the extra time, the sleeper is great for a long trip instead of killing yourself driving that far. Union station is pretty. I've spent plenty of time in that huge room waiting for a train! Even the regular seats are super comfy, even for someone like me that has a lot of pain sitting for long periods. I usually never have anyone in the seat next to me so i can spread out, use my laptop, you have power for all your tech. They recline way back with leg rests so it's really easy to sleep. I just love it. Only bad part is delays and on a long trip like this it takes twice the time driving nonstop would take.

This train comes right through my town. I have to drive 9 miles to get to the Springfield station if I want to ride it. I've often thought about taking it to see my cousins in TX.

That was a really fun video! You did a great job documenting the whole experience; I felt like I had taken the trip myself.

Same as you, single with a little dog. I've been wanting to do a similar trip but, haven't found out if I can take my little guy. We go everywhere together so I can't go if he can't go. I'd also like to know the cost.

Just getting to see this... that was like transitioning between a mini documentary, and some sort of Amtrack FPS. :) Very cool. Have a great day!

I used to live in Detroit, now I'm in Georgia. I would love to take an Amtrak from Georgia to Michigan. Try heating your Pop Tarts in a toaster with a cold glass of milk 😋

Loved it. Pretty cool little train ride MRE you put together for yourself during the long wait!
11:23 You JUST realized? You already forgot about the "push for bed" levers you talked about TWO SECONDS ago?

Enjoyable, honest video Nerd. I've done Chicago to Portland, OR ten times or so sans video though. All points west of Chicago are vast expanses of farmland and farther west through Montana, Idaho and Oregon are jaw dropping scenic. With Amtrak though, track/movement delays will happen. So relax, take in the scenery and all the best.

Glad you enjoyed it! Ill have to check out another line sometime Id be curious ones that go through the mountains seems like it would be worth it - Cheers!

@@QuietNerd I really like the experience of the ones that have the observation car (the Texas Eagle to LA gains the observation car after San Antonio when it joins with the Sunset Limited coming from NOLA. It also gets the traditional dining car with better food). The observation car allows passengers that are interested in the scenery, regardless of ticket class, to interact. Also Amtrak employees or volunteers point out the important sights in that car. And you can go to your room if you want a little more quiet time

I'm only two and a half minutes into your film but I already my head is racing with thoughts and questions. The Chicago station looks wonderful but I wonder about the city. Every Time I think of Chicago I think murder murder kill kill kill. I wonder what your thoughts are on this major city. Am I wrong or mistaken for completely avoiding it at all costs? Murder murder murder! 🤔🤔🤔😥😢

Wow dining has changed. Went from LA to Seattle it was wonderful. Linen tablecloths beautiful dinnerware. And the meals like a 5 star restaurant and of course the bar car was like a night at cheers. We made friends laughed so much. Wanted to get a job on a train after that.

That AMTRAK train is discussing and dirty. I have heard a lot of negative things about AMTRAK. And your video just confirmed it all .
