I was there. If you looked a couple hundred feet to the right of the stage rolling by the festival grass was an unobstructed view of the Mighty Mississippi. Down by the River literally. Simply an awesome experience to take in live. Neil never disappoints. I believe this is the longest DBTR ever done. First verse doesn't kick in until 12 min mark, Lmao! At about 21:14 they ramp it up to a whole other level.

I have seen him live three times..last time was at Chastain Park in Atlanta and at the end of the concert I was drunk and ran down thru the bleachers screaming let me thtu..let me thru..let me thru until I I got to the stage crying and screamed I have loved you all my life and I reached out my hand and he squeezed it and we let go...I'll never be the same again..!!! What a killer kool as hell story. Lucky you. Just saw him at Atlanta May 7th & with Crazy Horse to boot. My 1st live show. OMG, it was absolutely the very best night of my life. Been waiting 50 years. I didn't come back down for like 2 weeks. I was like I was in a complete Neil fog & couldn't seem to get anything done. LOL. All I know is....... If I ever get the chance to go see him again........MY ASS WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET IN THE FRONT AS CLOSE AS I CAN FUCKING GET TO NEIL & OLD BLACK. But, I absolutely love your story, cause you gotta be around my age (61&3/4) & I can just imagine running down bleachers, hollering at folks. And him reaching for your hand, I know was PRICELESS. Hell, your lucky he was still there, cause when I just went, after encore, they were gone & roadie's was tearing that shit down within 5 secs. Wanted to take some stage pics,but no. That's alright, it's in my head. Much Love from Lower Alabama.

Could be that he is still actually getting better!? The spirit is clearly undiminished in any way - has there ever been a guitarist with more spark than this man? Maybe reinvigorated by playing with young guys - who are clearly a factor in this fine performance. Leaving aside all the unfair comparisons with the Horse - they are not the Horse, but who cares? He wants to live in the moment, and what a long moment it is! Anyway, he has earned it. Magnificent.

@@vincehenriquez680 I was looking around during the opening jamming to see if the Florence and the Machine fans etc who may not have been diehard Neil fans were understanding what was happening. There was some restlessness and a few quizzical looks because they came out on stage and launched right into this. Neil said one time he wasn't going to do this song anymore. Then when Ben Keith died he said for sure he wasn't doing it anymore. It's the right descriptive words , when Neil young is referred by writers as an Artist and a Legend. "Uncle Neil" has been keeping me occupied enjoying his different interpretations of his creations and I'm still discovering more of his inventory or his soul, in songs in my middle age male life. I guess I can thank in part, agencies like the CRTC, Of Canada for their silly censorship regulations. I was going to take the politics out of my comment and then I remembered how committed Neil is to his world outside of his art...
@kbrewski12 жыл бұрын
Its ALL one song! More Barn! Rust Never Sleeps! Remember as you watch this epic, this was the OPENING TUNE of their setlist! 36 min. Then they played 11 more tunes including a closing salvo of F'#@kin Up, Cinnamon Girl, Rockin in the Free World and another long heavy intense jamming tune to close, Love and Only Love, which was awesome. So at least another hour and a half.

WOW..bro..excellent plus on your filming and recording this amazing version. of DBTR...i have always been amazed by Neil in his live shows with Crazy Horse..Buffalo Sprinfield, Stills Young, and CSNY, that i attended, but this takes the cake. Neil is such a beautiful being, and his talent on guitar, piano, and as a singer/sonwriter is off the charts. Thank u so much for filming and recording and posting this.
@kbrewski12 жыл бұрын
I was at this epic performance, and needless to say it was mind melting. Cool that someone had the patience and literally the arm strength to film the entire 36 min. First time I ever saw Neil w Promise of the Real. It got me to thinking how many DBTR w different Neil bands I've seen. Multiple times with Crazy Horse. Once w CSNY. Once w Phish as his backing band at Farm Aid (another epic jam version). At least once with the Rick Rosas/Chad Cromwell Restless band. And now w POTR. All different and unique in their own ways. I treasure every one of them. This version was obviously epic and I'm pretty sure its the longest he's ever done. Its probably the "grungiest" and most jamming. I can't say definitively its the "best", because I treasure Neil+Crazy Horse versions. There is a certain galloping rhythmic intensity that the Horse always has on this tune. They leave the space for Neil to solo and they know when to ramp up the distortion and feedback. Some of the versions I have heard from the 1996 tour are shorter (14-18 min) but so intense and crackling its incredible.

Slow burn shredding ! Cool marathon build up ! Thanks so much, runme 69. Seen Neil with POTR, Hyde Park London, July 2019 as the support group for Bob Dylan. Neil said they weren't used to playing in daylight, Mebbe a goodnatured dig at Bob, headlining after him. These guys were so much better that day. Worthy successors musically to Crazy Horse imo. Where does Neil get his great T-shirts btw? In Hyde Park London 2009 Neil played with one arm out of his long-sleeved shirt. Absolutely tore the place apart with Keep on Rockin' in the Free World closing number. Rick Rosas's bass shaking the ground on Hey, Hey, My, My opener.

So I said, "Hey lady, you want the hits? Go home and put on your head phones. We came to listen to Neil play, not listen to you b*tch and moan." She scoffed and disappeared backward into the massive sea of people. The people near me thanked me, and we went on to enjoy the remaining 31 minutes of music gold in euphoric peace.
