What people most often miss about what makes modric truly world class is his positioning and ability to retain possession. If he knows he won’t win the first ball he’ll drift into an area to cut off a passing lane or win a second ball. You can see that in his interception from this video. Also, he doesn’t make mistakes. He always keeps possession allowing his team to stay on the offensive. Obviously he has great dribbling and passing but those are easy to see. It’s the other stuff that helps Real Madrid win championships

He could have three players around but he'll drop a shoulder, feint a certain way or shift himself to make sure he holds the ball and picks a pass. Watch the goal against PSG at 2.30 in the vid. 6 defenders in front of him, two options to spread the ball wide... he gathers possession and threads a beautiful ball through for Benzema, the one options ahead of him.
