360 / 4K Video - Formation and Aerobatic Flying in Vans RV-7 / RV-9

Was VERY lucky to catch a flight in a friends Vans RV-9A (silver) and get the 360 camera up in another Vans RV-7A. Great day for flying with Rainier and St. Helens off in the distance. My pattern practice in the Cessna will now seem a lot more sedate :)

+MrGridStrom We almost made a body for the camera, just for the full affect. Wasn't sure I could convince people to go fly around with a headless torso in the passenger seat so decided against it :)

Mark Campbell A GoPro Hero 360. It is 6 Hero 3+ cameras in a cube shaped mount so each camera covers a different direction.

What camera(s) do you use to do 360 video? I love film-making, and would like to get into this, as I feel the market in immersive video will only continue to grow.

+Pretty Neat VR It is a 360 Hero H6 (Six GoPro Hero 3+ in a cube shape). Setup shown in this thread here : www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?p=976935

+mdbuehler Cool. Do the cameras have a setting to crop different on the sides? Or do you do all the stitching in post? Is it relatively easy to stitch them together? I know this info is probably somewhere on the internet, but you are very professional with every video I've seen.. Ha. Thanks!

+Pretty Neat VR You do all the stitching in post, and you do the cropping and alignment there as well (synching of the cameras too). There is a program called "VideoStitch" that I use for all of these steps but alignment (and it can do that too). For more alignment options, and the ability to mask out parts of a video (so you can choose which camera wins where they overlap) I use PTGui. You create your template for how to align the six cameras in PTGui, then load it into VideoStitch, and continue editing from there. Once I've output the complete file, I load that into Corel Video Studio to edit it down and add transitions. All three are excellent tools that are fairly intuitive to learn.
