How do the yields compare to center pivots or linear machines?
@watomb3 жыл бұрын
Cool concept if it could take wheat farmers and turn them into corn farmers it would transform many farming operations in US and Canada. But guessing it’s not that efficient with water.
@naturalsolutions70253 жыл бұрын
That's the idea, that it is more efficient with water since it applies the water at the base of the plant.

@@naturalsolutions7025 need a trade study that compares it to Drip and drip subsurface. Thinking cost might drive other solutions
@naturalsolutions70253 жыл бұрын
@@watomb this is cheaper than drip by close to 50%. If you watch their other videos you're actually told the water savings percentage. I have drip tape. I have been around and worked on pivots 2/3rds my life. The water requirements in the designing are quite a bit less than even tape. Also, a lot of people are against buying something like drip tape. This is a great option when considering irregular shaped fields.

@@watomb not the ones that are grandfathered in. Human nature doesn't change until economics forces it to, so it won't change until it starts running dry like in texas panhandle.

Yes. There will be many new attachments for this platform down the road.

Half inch a week on a 180 acres field. A center pivot can do .5 every three days or less. While this is a neat idea. Its not fast enough. U would have to buy two of these to really keep up in hot weather. Which would be fine if the cost these for two would be the same as one center pivot. The price of these seems way high for what it is. Think the price will come down when other companies build these and the technology bcomes cheap. Like a flat-screen tv when they first came out were very expensive. Now cheap to buy. Believe this idea will be popular in 10 to 15 year when its less expensive.

We have 750gpm wells for pivots on square quarters. But many fields have a smaller odd shaped field in close proximity to it. Could you make the machine travel much much faster and larger diameter piping to utilize the 750gpm well without having water runoff?
@naturalsolutions70253 жыл бұрын
Why could you not install a VFD and slow the well down? Is 750 GPM necessary?
@mbaier913 жыл бұрын
@@naturalsolutions7025 you've clearly never been to nebraska. Corn uses 0.25 inches per day at max evapotranspiration for 250 bu/acre. We don't get rain here sometimes. Yes you need 750gpm to run a 1320' long center pivot system. The existing wells cost 70k to put in. Does not make economic sense to tear apart wells. Solution, make bigger hose on machine and make it walk several mph faster across fields so can put on up to 2" per week.
