As an older gentlemen, I cut my curl out back in 81, and like all black men, you have to train your hair to form waves. The thicker the hair is the deeper your wave pattern is. I would have waves so deep in my scalp, I could cut it damn near off and the pattern would not go away. You have to brush and allow it to grow at least 1/2 inch and cut and use a Dax , Murrays, or 360 etc to hold the pattern. I would lay the grease and follow up with hot towel to thin the grease and put your durag on. But having a great barber like my man will add that fire!
