I think the hair is just thinner at the crown area, which is why it needs to be thicker for waving. And it's why understanding which direction that hair is growing is so important. It can end up having the same effect as cutting a cowlick the wrong way.

Wave/barber community, y'all gotta do better...I be seeing people hop in the chair, un-rag and have busted hair lines...some people have them naturally, but many develop bad ones due to how tight the rag is and how long the wear them. Barbers, y'all need to point that kind of stuff out, especially during tutorial vids...because us as viewers are seeing exactly what you all see. If I am a barber, I'm asking specific questions during client consultations when I'm presented with a particular hair line like this. "Has it always been this way? When did you realize it? How long are you ragging up?" From there I can recommend a personalized remediation plan. Wavers, STOP WEARING THESE RAGS SO DAMN TIGHT AND FOR SO DAMN LONG! STOP BEING SO INSECURE ABOUT PROGRESS. IT IS OK TO UN-RAG AND LET YOUR SCALPS BREATH. If you are quick to lose progress, the ugly truth is your waves are more artificial vs organic. I actually stopped ragging up and my waves are at their best. I've not worn a rag since I scalped 1 month ago and I'm at my best. I have naturally wavy hair, though. Also, if your hair isn't naturally wavy and you're on the more coarse side of the spectrum, STOP WOLFING FOR LONGER THAN 2 MONTHS. ESPECIALLY if your coarse hair grows fast and thick. That rag is impeding the natural growth. Barbers/wavers, do better. Sometimes I question you all's and/or how knowledgeable some of you are. I be getting vibes that y'all are more about 1-upping each other vs coming together and growing as one. If you have tips, share them. Don't leave anyone behind because you feel like you giving up the game. It's hair and we invest in it...give that same commitment to the community
