The only thing I'm tired of is not being able to laugh 24/7. I'd love to laugh in my sleep instead of snore!

Okay, I'm gonna do my best to explain the joke. So I think they were playing bridge, since we are told it is a joke about bridge. I don't know much about bridge, but I think it is a game for four players, so they were likely playing with another couple (it is listed under hospitality). Bridge is played in teams, where teammates sit across from each other, so probably it was husbands versus wives. I'm assuming an ace is a very good card in bridge. However the various suits have different values, so some aces are better than others. I think the wife had an ace and felt very confident of victory, but then her husband played an ace of a stronger suit (i.e. the trump card). This change of fate might have enraged her, and she may have said something along these lines, "Oh, is that how you want to play? Do ya? Do ya buster? Well then why don't you take these bridge lamps home and sleep with them?!". The question then is, "Why bridge lamps"? A bridge lamp seems to be a floor lamp with an adjustable arm. It's an Americanism from the 20's or 30's. I was unable to find the origin of the word, but I would assume it is called a bridge lamp either because the arm looks like part of a bridge or because it was used while playing bridge. Possibly both. If it was placed next to the table the arm (or bridge) could be swiveled over the table top to illuminate the play area. But that doesn't answer "why a bridge lamp?" Perhaps this was just the first object she saw. I think it is also important to remember that a floor lamp is more or less the height of a human, and therefore a good candidate for a replacement wife. However, I think the humorous crux of the joke definitely comes from the fact that it is not "a bridge lamp", but "a couple of bridge lamps", which conjures the humorous image of him walking home down the street with one in each arm like a luminiferous Hugh Hefner. Yeah, that's definitely the joke.
