Oh, another wonderful part of the Big Island is that the southernmost point of the island is called “South Point”, and it’s the southern most post of ALL 50 STATES. It’s also very special in that there are no beaches or coast line...it’s just a cliff that drops into the ocean. As you look over the cliff and look down, it’s just straight down into the ocean...and it’s about 20-30 feet deep right at the cliff’s drop. Also, whereas the wind usually blows from the ocean towards the land...the wind at South Point actually blows out to sea. So with the automatic deep sea ocean, coupled with the fact that the wind blows out to sea...locals will attach fishing line and lures to a giant rubbish bag that they inflate, and the wind blows the line out to sea. So it’s one of the few places in the world where people can catch deep sea fish FROM SHORE!!! I’ve had friends catch ahi (yellow fin tuna), marlin, ono (wahoo), Mahi mahi (dolphin), and ulua (massive Jacks) from the shore...those are usually fish that are caught out in the deep blue sea. As someone who grew up fishing on my dad 3 different boats growing up, I had never seen that before, and was absolutely fascinated by it. 😁

“Ube”, pronounced “ooh-beh” is just a sweet potato, and it tastes very similar to other sweet potatoes. The only diff is that it’s a very bright purple colour. If you get a chance, try some sweet potato pie! It’s a vibrant purple colour and it’s delicious!

Love love love this part of the island!! We have stayed at the Fairmont Orchid many times, and taken the beach walk over to the Canoe House for an amazing sunset dinner. Will have to try out the Mauna Lani Resort now that it has been recently renovated, once travel restrictions are eased coming from Canada! Brings back many wonderful memories!

You mean the Mauna Lani, right? Your title says “Mauna Lanai”...you might want to change your title description. Oh yeah, it’s “honu”...pronounced “hoei-new”...*not* “haw-new”. The way you pronounced the “ho” in “holo” is the same way it should be pronounced in “honu”. You both made such a beautiful video and were so respectful that I just wanted to offer some constructive criticism. I really appreciate that y’all were so wonderful in this video and see all of the beauty that is Hawai’i. 😁

Aloha and Mahalo for another great video! Coming again in two weeks and have a question. At 2:17 you show the tranquil bay and mention that the Fairmont has a lagoon that the public can swim in and also that beautiful protected bay. I love the HIlton Waikoloa lagoon, is the Fairmont Lagoon similar? And where would you recommend to park if walking far is an issue? Mahalo!!!

If there is one thing to me that the state of Hawaii has done right, it is making the beaches and ocean available to the public. If I am not mistaken all of the hotels also have to provide a few vehicle parking spaces to the public as well. 🤙🏼
