having used 2 different versions of the RX580-8GB I can confidently say it was a trash card from day 1. unless you can find a version with an oversized cooler and over built VRM like a Red Devil. a RX5500/GTX1660 will crush it at half the size and power draw. better yet they support some hardware machine learning so they can run things like XESS and support more mainstream video codecs not including the new AV1. so they are less of a paperweight when browsing sites like youtube.

The 2600 and 3770 are not really the same. The 3770 supports 1600mhz ram and has more bandwidth,it supports pci express 3.0 and it uses 18w less power which would help the PSU if you add a graphics card
@Lurch-Bot5 ай бұрын
A 3770S would be even better because it uses about 40W at full blast, while performing exactly the same. Also, S series CPUs tend to be a bit cheaper because they were commonly used in workstations and sold in huge numbers. They are higher binned chips so it is a better buy, especially if you want to do some FSB overclocking. I'm getting ready to try it on my 4790S because I managed to get a nice Z87 MB for $25. Either way, I consider both to be obsolete in 2024 for anything other than an eSports/Minecraft rig and even then only if you aren't really into warzone. I sold a 3770S/1650 machine a couple months ago for $350 and, even at that price, I had to wait awhile for it to sell. Microshaft has publicly announced they will block Windows 11 running on any PC that lacks AVX2 support from receiving updates. Apparently that's more of a security issue than not having TPM 2.0. Also, plenty of more recent AAA games use AVX2 extensions and not having them will cause a huge hit to performance in some cases. It is sort of like trying to run mesh shaders on a 1080. You can just barely play AW2 on one because it is using around half the CUDA cores just to emulate the mesh shaders.
@Mirra2003-f9s5 ай бұрын
@@Lurch-Bot I'd say obsolete for modern gaming but they are still capable of doing normal stuff and they still perform better than low end modern Pentiums. Win 11 Enterprise IoT will still support older cpus if the regular Pro or Home will find a way to not work on them anymore

I believe this particular OEM uses an H67 or Q67 chipset, which isn't going to support PCIe 3.0 or 1600MT RAM even with a 3rd gen i7. He'll get the faster base/boost clocks and slightly increased IPC but that's about it. Not sure about availability in Ukraine but adapters exist for most HP prebuilts that use proprietary PSUs to allow them to work with standard ATX power supplies. This looks very similar to some of the Z series workstations of the same vintage and I'm positive they exist for those.

If you compare Passmark results, the 3770 is about 20% better in both single and multi-threaded workloads. I recently sold a PC with a 3770S (same performance, lower power draw) and a 1650 and when testing the machine, it felt like the right balance. Maybe you could go up to a 1660 Super or 2060 but that would be about it., as far as what the CPU can realistically handle. You could also go with something like an RX6600 which will perform about like a 1080 without reBAR. I wouldn't put an ARC GPU in it because it is too much of a performance hit without reBAR. But when I sold a machine with a 1080 this year, I paired it with a 4790S, which is more appropriate for 1080p gaming with a GTX 1080. it is only 13% better than the 3770S in multi thread and 8% better in single thread but it does support AVX2 which is relevant for gaming these days if you are trying to play AAA games. Also, MS is going to block Windows 11 updates on systems that lack AVX2 extensions. Not sure when it will take effect. Looks like they were nice enough to give people in that situation some time to upgrade before pulling the plug. I wouldn't buy anything older than Haswell at this point to build a PC I'm selling. The 3770S was a special case because I already had a halfway decent H61 MB that wasn't doing anything and a 3770S was a good fit for the 1650 I had sitting around. It was also objectively many times better performing than what you'd get if you bought a $350 'Gaming PC' on Amazon.

Tip: When buying older prebuilts, always use a newer motherboard, psu. You can easily swap the case cables with some inexpensive adapters designed for using new motherboards in old proprietary cases like Dell and HP, they are on Amazon and fairly cheap. Just know when buying these old style units to always add $100-$150 for this very reason. Sure it may work but the limited functions of those system specific motherboards just make everything a pain, update those boards and use newer style PSU's as well to ensure not only function but proper upgrade paths. New/used MB+PSU in a standard atx style Should only be $80-$150 tops. And most of that cost is the newer PSU. Keep or sell the HP board and PSU or save for a retro original parts setup. Great video!

So I've done a few upgrades instead and created a Hackintosh duel boot. Used the power supply from a budget gaming pc that I bought which I swapped because I wasn't happy using a budget PSU in that PC but it's fine for this. The i7 3770 actually is better than the i7 2600 in many ways. It runs cooler, and uses less power. It is five to ten percent faster (not a lot) due to better optimization as well as using DDR3-1600 as opposed to the slower DDR3-1333. The i7 3770 also has a Intel HD4000 integrated GPU while the i7 2600 has the older HD 2000. I don't see it as a worthy upgrade from a i7 2600 if you already have one but the i7 3770 is worth a few bucks extra over the i7 2600 if you can choose one or the other. It is especially worth getting if you have a slower i3 or i5 and are looking to upgrade. Be sure to avoid the S variant of the i7 as they are a lower power version and are clocked lower.

"I have the same computer, bro. Do you think with a 320W power supply I'll be able to put in a GTX 1060? I have 4x4 GB RAM and 2 hard drives."

Back then the cpu generations had such little uplift I can’t even remember why Intel bothered.

OLD HPs are something different. Month ago I wanted to try making "ultimate HP Z420" build that could not use any case modding (no tools) or psu swap (wanted to make it look OG) and manage to make unit with: - E5-2670v2 - 1x 512GB Sata SSD - GTX 1080 FE -> this one requires 1x8pin which official 600W HP Z420 PSU does not have... but it has 2x6 PIN - so i just used simple adapter 2x6->1x8pin connector and poof, no psu swap required :D - 1x 1TB HDD WD Blue - 8x 4GB 1600MT/s DDR3 ECC Ram i also: - 3d printed a special shroud which allowed for me to attach 92mm fan on front (gelid 92mm one) - instead of buying overpriced HP bracket, let's just 3d print one - replaced the exhaust fan with same gelid 92mm fan as with 3d bracket above - replaced CPU cooler with some aftermarket one using AM3-LGA 2011 adapter. Had to transfer fan connector from HP cooler onto the aftermarket one - was easy and did not require any soldering all of that for exactly 1000 PLN which is around $247 I can say that this build surprised even me how much of good temps it can hold... GTX 1080FE with Undervolt inside that case, could not go above 68 degree with default Nvidia fan curve - i blame the extra front fan that pushes all its cold air into 1080FE cooler :D

I got a $45USD Dell OptiPlex 3010 SFF i5, swapped out the CPU for a Xeon ES-1230 V2 & made it into a pfsense server.
