I tried so many backpacks for traveling (not for hiking). I didn't like that they tended to collapse into themselves or fall over when free standing, or that everything fell to the bottom and I could not find what I was looking for. One day I was at target trying to find something better than what I had when I came across the baby aisle. It was then I discovered that what I was looking for was a diaper bag! I found that the storage and pockets made so much sense, it was available in adult colors, and it stood up on its own. This is now my new travel best friend.

My travel tip is for my jewelry. I use a plastic travel soap dish. Also use a drinking straw for my necklaces. Place one end of the necklace through the straw and attach it at the bottom. It keeps them from tangling.

In my hotel room, I always immediately do these things: I take out and clean the air conditioner filters, i clean them in the bathroom sink or bathtub or shower, i ask for extra shampoo to use to clean the filters. Wipe ac buttons with sanitizer wipes, too. I also bring ziplock baggies to put the tv remotes in. So i don't touch those icky buttons. Remote works inside the baggie. Another hack is immediately wipe all door knobs or handles inside and outside with sanitizer wipes, also all dresser, cabinet, and closet knobs and all wall light switches and those on the lamps as well. Wipe Fridge handles and microwave buttons too. Buttons on the safes, too. Be safe and enjoy your trip!!
@fattony92279 ай бұрын
I do most of the tips you mentioned but I like the idea of using plastic bags on remotes. In addition, I usually pay more attention to coffee making equipment. I clean the water kettle and NOT use any drinking glasses or coffee cups supplied by the hotel. I bring my own coffee cup and use paper cups for water drinking. I stay away from using hotel cutlery, use plastic spoons and forks, wash dishes and bowls thoroughly with hot water and soap. I would not use the bathroom robes either.

Lots of good ideas here! Just yesterday I reorganized the 5 pouches that I keep in my personal bag. ( I keep them packed so I can grab it whether for flying or driving.)1. Liquids/personal hygiene 2. Tech (charger, power bank, flash drive, cords for the different sort of plugs - although I plan to order an all-in-one cord before next big trip), cheap earbuds, and car charger 3. “Office” - pen, pencil, highlighter, small memo book, small pad of post-its, a few paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands, a 6in ruler/bookmark, and a lint-free glasses cleaning cloth 4. Miscellaneous - mini-first aid kit, sewing kit, tiny lint brush, mirror, alcohol wipes, a couple of clothes pins, tweezers, nail clippers, emery board, plastic fork and spoon, Tums, advil, and nighttime nose strips (plan to add some earplugs, too) 5. “Fabric” - a thin washcloth and extra pair of undies (these after I once spent 24 hours in the Newark airport☹️) and now an extra mask. I use a simple mid-size zippered tote and all 5 pouches together take up less than half the space and prepare me for almost anything ( although I do wish someone would make a travel size of scotch tape). At the end I add a book, iPad, and small crossbody bag with phone, wallet and travel docs.

consider just taking a refill roll of scotch tape. Every time you use it, fold back the end so you can easily start it again. Also, you can mark the inside of your memo book with inches and eliminate the ruler.

Lush sells tins for their shampoo bars that fit them perfectly so no wet bars! Also, if you take two rubber bands and wrap them around the open tin (make like a little trampoline for the bar) and set your bar on top, it lets your bar dry out between uses so it’s not a gloopy mess on the bottom of the wet tin if you’ve kept it in the shower 👍🏻

Just found your channel and want to say hello from this Houstonian to a fellow Houstonian! When you mentioned putting your umbrella in a zip lock bag, it reminded me of something I just found out. When you buy an umbrella, it usually comes with a matching cover and I, always in the past, would stick the cover in a drawer and forget about it. Turns out, those covers are meant to use when your umbrella is wet, so it won’t get everything else wet when you put it away in your handbag! Who knew?

Congratulations! And many thanks for your great videos which help so many of us travel smarter, lighter and safer. As my financial responsibility for older relatives has increased, my overall travel hack is to save money for actual trips by shopping sales and purchasing "just like" products. Same quality items are available without the name brands, pretty packaging and higher price tags. Dollar store night lights, foldable slippers, chip clips and binder clips, heavy-duty cloth and plastic pouches, night lights and clip-on reading lights, doorstops and luggage locks, etc., etc. Nomad Lane is a fine company and so glad they've recognized you! I wanted the Bento Bag after seeing a friend's, but couldn't afford it. As have other of your fans, I purchased a Bagsmart lookalike and compared the two. Except for the hardware and pouches, they are quite similar in fabric, size, design and features - at a quarter of the cost. I put the money I save with into a travel fund, and it adds up quickly. Thanks again, Laurie, for the great ideas you and your viewers teach me.

Congratulations on hitting 100k. Thanks for all of the great travel hacks. Here are a few I use: I use the coffee cup lids from the hotels as a soap dish for at the sink or in the shower. I use Dove Soap and I save my soap slivers and use them as travel-size soap (I pack them in a baggie) - same with the Lush solid shampoo (a little goes a long way). I bought a small (round) swivel nightlight from Dollar Tree and use it in the hotel bathroom (or cruise ship bathroom) and if I leave it behind, no biggie, it was only $1. I also pack some flat car air fresheners in my luggage. They can be hung in the hotel closet or up against the hotel AC to help it smell nice. I also pack a travel sized spray perfume to spritz in the bathroom as needed. I found condiment containers (for ketchup/mustard/dressing) at Dollar Tree and they are the perfect size to hold shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shave gel, etc. They work well and do not leak. When I go to a hotel, I usually ask the desk for toothpaste and shaving cream because those smaller containers can be hard to find (or almost as expensive as the large size). When I stay in a hotel without a fridge (like in Vegas), I pack a small insulated bag (soft-side cooler) so I can keep ice frozen overnight. I hope these help!

Also, since this trip will include a special birthday celebration, I put my one dressy outfit, along with associated jewelry and ballet flats, in my nicer cross body purse, also in my personal item bag, so in case my carry on bag gets lost, I have the most important stuff with me. Anyhow, my liquids/gel bag was SOOOO packed, I ran out of space, so instead of figuring out a way to take my small container of liquid foundation (that I only use to cover spots), I dipped a few q-tips in the foundation and popped them in a ziploc. No bottle to try to fit. Another thing I always take on trips is a pad of post-it-notes. I leave notes for myself to not forget to get my items out of the safe (among other things) when we go to checkout. I love all your tips. I love to travel so always looking for new ideas.

As a road warrior for 30 years, I feel like I've owned every "personal item" bag known to man. Then I purchased the Nomad Lane Bento Bag. My search is over. I will never purchase a different personal item bag. Nomad Lane got it right in every respect. Yes, I do use organizer pouches inside the Bento Bag (for toiletries, technology, etc.). I have two different rollaboard bags depending on my trip (both Travelpro).

Hi David. Can you compare the pros of the Bento to a backpack? Have you flown with in on any of the ultra low cost international carriers, e.g. Ryan Air? Thanks in advance.
@DaveM-FFB2 жыл бұрын
@@maxine2261 Unfortunately I can't compare the Bento Bag to a backpack because I don't use backpacks, due to having a bad back. I also avoid the ultra low cost carriers because I don't like paying extra for every little thing. The Bento Bag is an awesome replacement for a traditional laptop bag.

LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS! ❤ Can you please make a video reviewing the neck pillow that you can pack with additional clothes. And also travel vests. Ones that have all the interior pockets. We are taking our first international flight to Europe and Ireland and I saw those and thought they might help with packing and pick pocketing. Thanks.

My favorite shampoo bar is from Naples Soap in Florida. I find that it only needs one or two rubs in my hair (long and thick) for the shampoo to bubble up quickly. Naples also sells little round cases, as they sell conditioner bars also. To ensure that the bars don't stick to the inside of the case (or a sink), I cut a small circular piece of a "soap rest" and place it inside. Soap rests are those little plastic squiggly soap holders that can be cut easily to size. I usually travel for a few weeks at a time when visiting family in Germany, then leave the leftover shampoo & conditioner bars for them. The empty boxes are good for jewelry and other small items.

Very nice tips! We have traveled for years. We write our last name on the top of the suitcase near handle with permanent marker. When a person looks down to grab it they see it is not their suitcase. We use gray marker on the black suitcases. We also place our name on the bottom which makes it easy to identify checked luggage at the baggage carousel. The suitcase is spotted quickly and there is not a worry for a tag/ sting/ tape to fall off the bag when it is being abused in baggage! 😀
@TravelTipsbyLaurie2 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea; I think I would use a family code word instead of my last name for safety.
@kathedeitzler18332 жыл бұрын
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie A code is a great idea!! A special word would also work. We have a very uncommon last name that is why we did not have a problem with using it!😃

I got my TSA pre-check last year, it works out to 17.00 per year, so it's a bargain even if you only use it once per year. It saves so much time and makes packing much less complicated. Keep your shoes and jacket on, electronics in their cases and walk through the metal detector with no body scan.

Laurie, I have difficult sometimes even opening a bottle of water, a jar of pickles use to be a “I can’t do it” project. But now I carry a 4” x4” piece of drawer liner (the plastic ones that has holes for grip) in my wallet. I take it out everywhere I need to open something and now I can open anything!!! Now I have one in my night table when I need to open a bottle water for my morning pills, one in my kitchen drawer when I need to open the olives jar and I don’t need to call my husband to open them up! Hope this help with your pickles jar.

Congratulations on reaching 100k!!! 🎉🎉🎉. This latest video is excellent, as always!!! I appreciate your advice and am taking notes for my next trip. I use binder clips to keep cords neat and I bring extra Ziploc bags in 3 sizes: snack, quart & gallon freezer - none of them take up space, but they come in handy. I also did not pack any shampoo, conditioner or toothpaste because I could buy it at a store on the way to my hotel or relatives house. I also always have a travel case of Qtips in my carry-on. I also discovered I only needed to take one eyeshadow palette that I could use dry for shadow and wet for liner - 2 uses in one item. I also bought a travel size mascara at Sephora, which, even though it was waterproof, would come off without using a special eye makeup remover. Also, pick a palette that has colors to double as blush! I would also suggest that if you've used the liquids out of your bag, and they are travel size, toss them before you fly home - less weight to lug around. I hope you like my ideas! ☺️. God bless you, Laurie!!! 🙏😊💜. Valerie from Kansas

Love your videos. You’re so charming, generous to give credit to those who’ve shared ideas and so super smart with great ideas. As an inveterate traveler who is also super neat, organized and almost OCD about how to pack I’m humbled and delighted at your amazing advice. I won’t even let my son pack when he’s off for a week with his friends - he always wants to look good but take the smallest bag so he doesn’t look like he cares. I manage to get everything in by using many of your ideas. (Then I make him listen as I tell him which pocket and which side has this or that in it otherwise total chaos) I’m so glad to learn about the packing cubes for clothes. I’ve used them for big items like pillows and quilts (the kind you vacuum the air out) but these cubes for clothes sound fantastic! I would love to have one outfit easily accessible for each of us, and my PJs for when I arrive and want to crawl into bed. I also like to keep that one outfit or a different top and pants just in case you spill something and you’re all wet mid-flight. I think I tend to travel to certain places or hotels that have more frills or services but it doesn’t mean your ideas are not just as applicable - you want to be smart and safe wherever you go. I so much appreciate your advice

Congrats Laurie on 100k....so well deserved!! Another great video! And ugh just came back from a short trip to Colorado with blisters!! I will have to try your hack on that! From now on will always have bandaids with me...lesson learned!! Here's a video idea.....packing for 2 destinations with different weather patterns. We took an Alaskan cruise a couple of years ago but stayed in Seattle for a few days to sight see. Alaska was cold and rainy. Seattle was very hot and sunny. It was a challenge between all the weather gear, having dress outfits and needing shorts. We really struggled with that one!! Love all your videos!

I have a tip. I love to go camping so I buy toilet seat covers that come in in 5 covers per container also travel toilet paper. When I fly I bring them with me in my personal item bag. Because the last time I was on a plane they didn’t have seat covers. Also sometime airport bathrooms run out of both. So I’m ready because I have my own.
