This is so sad. I spent my childhood shopping here in the 80's. Shame on the council:( thanks for video).

spent many hours in this place over the years - the fact that you could get in their during the day shows hoe dead Gosford is - remembering this place as a thriving location breaks my heart

The vacant land at the back of it near donnison street there was a uniform shop there called gosford tailoring. Before your local lowes had school uniforms, you got them from gosford tailoring. Sadly the building burnt down a while back.

The vacant block on the corner of Donnison and Albany St's was "Gosford Tayloring Schoolwear factory and shop ". Great video guys, was interesting to see the relics. I have a photo of the factory but can't find a share option.

This may have already been said in the comments but the area you thought may have been a cinema or Target was actually Grace Bros a long long time ago. In the 80’s. I loved watching your video. Thank you, guys :) it’s a shame vandals couldn’t leave it as they found it, and be as respectful as you.

I don't think it was grace bros near where they thought there was a cinema. Grace bros before it moved to Erina fair it was down on mann street near where you wait on those seats for a bus. In the area of Newcastle permanent currently is and near the lights are to cross the road. Near the William street plaza.

How does the market economy respond to excess retail space? In theory, rents are lowered. In Australia these days they'll put rents up and leave shopping centres like this abandoned for decades. In that time, the property value of this centre has increased 10x! Total insanity!

I used to go there a lot from the 80's after school up til I moved from the area in 2000. Since no-one mentioned it, there used to be a Copperart store on the right down just before the food court. I only ever knew it as Marketown. I never heard it called Kibbleplex until I saw it here. Makes sense with Kibble Park, I spose. I guess Imperial Centre will go next. Poor Gosford.

It opened in 79, my mum worked in waltons as security, on bottom floor, huge dept. store. She walked around all day looking like a she was shopping, picking up theives. Theres a door on donnison street, nr cnr mann street, stairs go straight down to where her office and cloak room was. The court house was a block of dirt used as a parking lot at the time, i was only 5 when it opened, but it was always busy. Thanks for the memories, shame its abandoned and gone to shit, such a huge building, going to be more unit blocks. Its original name was market town. The empty block next to it, was where we would buy our school uniforms as kids, did most of the schools around gossy.

This centre I remember going through when they reopened it...bottom level was Ronis...above it was Coles...main entrance was Gloria Jeans and an Aussie steak house, always a book open shop in front of the bottom escalator, food court in front of Cole's...my ex brother in law was a trolly boy there... unfortunately next to the centre where the open block is was an old TV repair place...it burned down and the owner died in the fire, and it was demolished...I called 000 as i lived in an apartment that looked over it...

Originally where the vacant lot is it was gosford tailoring and was a uniform shop for school uniforms and company uniforms over the years. I remember getting my uniform from there as a kid going to school. When Kincumber high opened in 1990 it was the only place we could get uniforms. You had to order them first and later pick them up.

I used to go there in the 90s as a child. Ground floor next to management used to be Littles Surf Shop, Supre used to be on the ground floor and a shop called Ice later on. First floor used to originally have Big Fresh and had buttons which operated fun things you could push as a child with your parents doing the shopping. Sam's warehouse of discounted items was there before it moved to the main Street of Gosford.

"The Kibbleplex Town Centre Car Park is set close in March 2021 after Central Coast Council resolved not to renew the lease on the facility at Wednesday night’s meeting. After considering their current financial situation, the availability of parking in the Gosford CBD and the recent approval for the re-development of the site, Central Coast Council decided not to renew the lease. The Kibbleplex Carpark has a capacity of 550 car spaces but since the pandemic, Council has seen a drop in the number of vehicles a day to just an average of 380."

46:48 would probably be an old set of escalators that got removed (partially) in the mid-2000s when the centre was last renovated. They sat outside the exit to Franklins Big Fresh (which became the only frontage that Coles had once that supermarket was reduced in size) and serviced at least the top level of the car park. I think the idea of getting rid of them was to de-clutter the floorspace (I suspect they may be the escalators that are/were stored next to the Gateway centre (couple of blocks away) for several years), much like how the ground floor shops on one side were set back a lot during the same renovation. Being a child of the 1990s with family on the Central Coast, I used to go to Gosford Marketplace (as it was called at the time) as I had a weird obsession with Franklins (because of the Big Fresh animatronics). At one point, it arguably had the edge on the Imperial Centre given it had McDonald's in the food court (just next to the smoking area you identify). However, I suspect that it never really took off because Franklins was struggling by the late-1990s, McDonald's left (for the Imperial Centre) about then, and Coles replaced Franklins when Coles was at a low ebb - but mainly because Marketplace was on the other side of Henry Parry Dr and hence a bit out of the way of a CBD which (thanks to Erina Fair) is barely busy enough to sustain one proper shopping centre, let alone two. But yeah, in part because I was a strange child from a small town, it was an exciting place for some obvious and some strange reasons: • Franklins Big Fresh (as above) • Watching semi-trailers back into the Woolworths loading dock on William St from the food court - skills • Big f-off escalators everywhere (like I said, I am from a small town) • Sitting in outdoor area of food court and watching traffic dive and climb on Henry Parry Dr - which is bloody steep in parts • Paul's Warehouse - back when it could be relied on to have cheap joggers all the time • When I was a uni student living in Gossie briefly, buying a six-pack of massive lamingtons for $4 from Baker's Buns (located opposite the top of the yellow escalators)
@SuperNathan90

those escalators outside gateway were there along time before the 2000 renovations. they came from inside gateway that was a thriving centre also . Franklins started in that centre then it moved when market town was first refurbished in 1992/93 and became franklins bigfresh .

What a waste of a superstructure that's as solid as the day it opened. Would have been flash and exciting when new, though the pebblecrete panels were 1960s based.

My first job at 16 years old I worked next door to lowes at The Reject Shop (1994-96). I still remember it all how it was like it was only yesterday. Very sad to see what it has all become. Supre used to be in the large corner store next to us. The back wall that divided our stores looks the same, we used to be able to see through the cracks even then into supre. The Supre store then became centrelink too for sometime in late 90's. Upstairs McDonald's used to be in the food court and a great kebab shop was there when franklin's was there. Abbey's cafe was Jay Jays. Dymocks bookshop were upstairs too and granny mays. Downstairs a music shop and also a newsagents among others. 😌
