Thank you for doing an episode on my great great grandpa. I’ve heard stories about him from other family members throughout my life, but it’s good to hear from an outside perspective. If you go to Japan today, you can visit the village where he stayed while he was there. There was a memorial stone in that village that commemorates his time there. The head of the village was Dr. Asaba-san and his kins are still taking care of that stone. One of my uncs went there a few years back and they treated him well. I haven’t been able to go, but I would love to visit that village some day. Just an hour or so outside of Tokyo. Look forward to many more episodes from you, Ken. Been a listener of your podcast for a while now.

Hi Thinh. Thank you for leaving this wonderful message. I’m happy to have learned more about your great great grandpa through Kevin. Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts from time to time. Where did you grow up?

Firstly, you do an excellent and admirable job, Kevin! Secondly, my suggestion for you is to further investigate the rumor that Ho Chi Minh secretly informed the French spies of Phan Bội Chau's whereabouts by looking for the book titled From Colonialism to Communism by Hoang van Chi, a high-level Viet Minh cadres who later on left Vietnam and resettled abroad. In the book, Mr. Chi claimed that Ho Chi Minh collaborated with Lam Duc Thu, a secretly dualistic spy of the French Secondary Bureau, who lured Mr. Phan Boi Chau to unintentionally walk into the French-consular jurisdiction area in Shanghai and was arrested by the French authority there and then extradited him to Vietnam. The Ho's motive was to eliminate whoever, no matter how patriotic, was not a Communist; that's a long-term strategy of the Third International Communists, to whom Ho vowed to be loyal.

Kevin, Thank You. A different and nuanced view about important people of our history. Keep your good work. Looking forward to hear more from you. Vietnameses living oversea and hopefully also those living in the country need these nuances of our history to 'discover' who we are. Thanks Kenneth for the interesting podcast.

I’ve learned more about Phan Boi Chau now than in history classes in Viet Nam. Especially from a young, charming professor Kevin Pham and interesting Q from Ken. Thank you both!

@@TheVietnamesepodcast there are few of Pham Xuan An interviews in vietnamese and documentary of him on vtv24. maybe you and Kevin could read the book separately and discuss it on podcasts and make a series out of it as you guys read thru the books.
