As an owner of RE 500 Desert Storm, I think I can speculate on the actual ride experience of this machine. I like low revving motorcycles and I am almost certain that HD 440 will give the same torquey experience of the RE500 but with a much better ride and handling ergonomics..

Hero and harley should never market it as compitation for Royal enfield classic,cos indians like British classic motorcycles.Thats why Re classics have come up so many upgrades of same design. They should market it as American classic(which are mostly cruisers..) They can take on Meteor 350-650 or they can create a seperate segment in between to be successful in india.Everyone pitching these against Re classics may go against it.. Engine has same Re characteristics-Long stroke,usable High torque at Low RPM..,which is Great... Marketing it as Classic compitation may pull it down.....

Harley hit the sweet spot on pricing. Harley is in partnership with Hero to use Hero's expertise in bike assembly and effective component/part cost management in India. I doubt if Hero had much say in the design process of this bike.

I highly doubt that. Hero would have done tons of the engineering and design work on this bike, however, as it's Harley's project done on Harley's dime, Harley would have the final say on styling, configuration and subcomponentry. This should be a good bike. Hero's the #1 bike builder in the world, specializing in small, sub-200cc, commuter bikes. Harley is the world's #1 producer of full-sized, heavy metal cruiser bikes. A mid-sized child between these two parents ought to be a solid machine. Time will tell.

A bike designer would really have to know about the history and essence of Harley as a brand and lifestyle it is in America to do complete justice to a new product to be launched by Harley. Hero doesn't have any cruisers in its offerings currently. So yes I would be surprised if they did the groundwork on the prototype of the X440. Harley has bitten the adventure bug by introducing Pan America 1250 a few years back and that has been the saving grace for Harley in recent years with its cruiser sales numbers and revenue dwindling. The Japs, Italians and BMW have been ruling the roost in the 600cc and above displacement bikes for sometime now globally.

As of now, it won't defeat RE 350. As RE 350 also comes with the similar engine configuration with the almost same Torque to Power ratio but due to reduced CC & power, mileage is slightly more. Also, RE 350 costs less than this machine. Only good this I found in this x440 is: 6 speed gearbox. This is missing from RE 350.

The length and breadth of the product line-ups in India is so large that there will be comparisons. However, the Triumphs 400s are leaps and bounds ahead of this. And cannot be compared. Remember those are made for international markets with an outward strategy than the x440 which is made specifically for Indian Markets. Had the HD introduced the twin cylindered x350/x500, then 🔥. Sad, the Chinese get everything first.

I was going to buy Royal Enfield Hunter after the test drive. It was light and easily maneuverable but personally wasn't happy with the open wiring and sub-standard light plastic used in that bike. Then decided to extend my budget and took Honda 350 test ride. Got impressed with its refined engine, road presence, sitting posture, and weight management. Booked it on the spot. I didn't know that this bike was gonna launched by Hero. But still, it's way out of the budget of over 3 Lakhs. I wish the buyers of this Harley will have a great experience and fun riding the bike.

@@crimsoncad3230 see brother, there are going to be 3 varients in this Harley as I know. If the base is 2.29k then sure it will cost around 2.60k or above on road. Also I bought Honda 350 highness base model cause they Matt grey I liked wasn't available in mid or top model. Plus addition to mid and top is Bluetooth and a extra horn. Which is unnecessary for me. So I kinda saved 10-12k with base model choice. Harley top model on road will surely cross above 3 Lakhs in India. Cause Honda's 350 top model goes around 2.75k in Maharashtra

If you had kept in touch with motorcycling news in India, you would have known about the bikes in the pipeline. Anyway the bike you have booked is also well sorted and should give you reasonable satisfaction. Ultimately it is more the rider than the machine which determines how much fun you have.
