Yeah, Donnie van Zant and his brother Johnnie van Zant lead singer of Lenard Skinard won't sometimes perform together as Van Zant.Their older brother Ronnie van Zant was the original lead singer of Skinard before he died in a plane crash in 1977.I really did hate that, because for one I worked at the airport in Little Rock Arkansasand they had a concert the night before, and I talked to Ronnie 15 minutes before he got on the plane. He was 26 then I think because I was 16 and he was 10 years older than me.And we both were born in January him 1948 me 1958.I was stationed in Japan in 1977 when I got the news of the crash. He was a real cool guy,and the way he was lying on the ground,it looked like he was just napping. He wasn't dirty or bloody. My friends didn't believe me when I told them I kicked it with him for 15 minutes,I guess because it was in the 70s and I'm a black guy.

50 years ago, this January, I fell in love with a beautiful girl I saw walking down a staircase. We had been in teachers' college since the fall, but had never seen each other. It was love at first sight. We both stopped in our tracks and smiled at each other. She passed away over four years ago, in the summer. This song is so meaningful for me because 'Since she's been gone, I've been in a trance.' It is so sad to think that she is not in this world any more. 50 years ago, almost to the day, and it feels like yesterday.

I've never heard about this group and I'm from 70s. Believe me, I've heard all 80s music worth listening to. The fact this group evaded me is a proof it is fairly rated. Cheesy lyrics, third rate melodiy, generic 80s arrangement - it's a pretty mediocre song from average musicians.

Criminally underrated band! People forget they were one of the bands played during MTV's first hour of existence...I believe the video for Caught Up In You was the one played during MTV's first hour. Second Chance was .38 Special's only #1 song, too. Don Barnes is the only current original member and he doesn't sing lead on a number 1 song. That's crazy! I was like 5 years old when these guys and the rest of this golden era of music was owning the radio airwaves. I've seen .38 Special, Marshal Tucker Band, Toto, Journey, Night Ranger, Styx, REO, Loverboy in concert over the last 8 months and they are all still AWESOME!!! Incredible that so few #1's came from those iconic bands...I got tickets to see .38 Special again in north Georgia in a few months, that's how great they are live. It's a shame music like this isn't released anymore but at least we can still listen to these greats and see them live a little longer!!!
