Oh, thank you! That's not a topic often talked about...yet we exist, and love Locksport too! For a beginner, such tips are so few... handling the lock, tensioning, picking... My chance is, for manual work, I'm pretty ambidextrous, so I will try either way, till I find what's both most comfortable for me, and... efficient for actually picking locks! Thank you again for your dedication to help others, that's very commandable. (Some mishap happened, and I won't be picking tool Sunday: my first set, a Southord Cola, is perfect, but...no top of the keyway wrench, and way too small for the transparent educational lock...so, I accidentally binded the core trying, when the wrench slipped hardly horizontally in the beginning of the keyway...and, core binded🤦🏼‍♀️ Had to order a cheap set for 1o€ on amazon to get some cheap thicker picks and tension wrenchs. Nicely enough: this set comes with 17 picks, 6 wrenchs including top of keyway, large as I need them, and...a new transparent lock, but: repinnable! So, kind of a bargain, feeling lucku in my misery. Can't wait to begin picking, after weeks of thetorical approach here on KZbin, with you, LPL and Bill! ) Be well and take care!

One thing I like with the inverted/Euro-style picking is that you can use the top of your hand as leverage on the pick instead of just where you grab it. I pick both US and Euro style. Thanks for the video.

Seems most deadbolts open to Counter CW while the lock in the door knob turns CW to unlock. Also, which plug spinner do you recommend? I have looked at Rytan, Huk and Goso.

kylefreemason Deadbolts always open away from the door frame. I have the GOSO which is bulky but works well. The one made by Peterson is great, and is more portable but it is more expensive

Great video. Haven’t seen much at all about left handed picking. Funnily enough the grips are the same that I ended up doing myself trying to figure it out. Including trying to do it upsidedown in the beginning 😅

I'm a data security guy, and I'm legally blind. I picked up my first basic set of .025 picks in December because I decided that it was kind of embarrassing that I, the guy who can't depend on my eyes, had never so much as learned to pick open a Master #3. Well, I managed that brilliant accomplishment within moments of inserting a pick. Being left-handed, I find myself picking padlocks upside down, I push the pins down or toward me … and I apply tension with my thumb for bottom of the keyway. Top of the keyway doesn't work for me so well, but I know my three little tensioners aren't really ideal for top of the keyway-I'd want dedicated tools of more precise thicknesses for that, and ideally my lock in a vice rather than my hand. Dunno how far I'll take my interest in the sport … it's fun, but I've basically satisfied my need to not embarrass myself, at least.

Lefty here. I tried it left handed, then switched. After so many years of calculators on the right. Typing, circular saws, transmission shifting, dual joystick equipment and most importantly, 50 years ago, a snappy right handed Vulcan salute a lockpick just wasn't that difficult for me. I still can't write a recognizable X right handed. LOL.

d Ogie I have talked to several people that are left handed and they seem to have had your approach as well. Trying to tension with top of the keyway especially counterclockwise can be a nightmare for someone starting out. The most important thing is you found your approach and it's working! We all find our way eventually. Some people are quite successful picking ways I could never open a lock like the approach when someone holds the pick by the handle and just picks off the warding I feel like that has no control but one of my friends is quite good and that's how he does it.

Lefty here also. I feel your pain for sure. It can be impossible it seems. Mad Bobs curved tension wrenches sometimes help to get the correct angle at times. Sometimes I bend by home made wiper blades into a comfortable position. Whatever it takes. Tension is 90% of the problem.

Late to the video, relatively new to the hobby. Thank you for the tips! I’ve spent the weekend so far “unlearning” the upside-down grip. It’s frustrating struggling with locks that, held upside down, I can pick in seconds (I’m looking at you, Abus 64ti/50).

@HelpfulLockPicker
@HelpfulLockPicker 7 жыл бұрын
No problem! BOK = Bottom of keyway tension, TOK = Top of keyway tension, CW = clockwise tension, CCW = counter clockwise tension.
