As I came closer to retirement, I became suspicious that insurance companies were playing Russian roulette with my health. When they said I needed fewer cancer screening tests, I felt that they had a vested interest in my demise. Nevertheless insurance is necessary.

Hi Dr I am a huge fan of your knowledge.. thank you for advocating for women. The big question is.. why is no one talking about HRT minimum dosage requirements to prevent diseases? The conversation has started and HRT is getting so much more buzz now but other Dr’s are not talking about minimum dosage but prescribing the lowest amount. I just want to be prepared when I go into my Drs office next week! Is there an article or something to back up this minimal dosaging?? Thank you in advance!

All that matters is the proper dosage FOR YOU. And the only way to know the proper dosage FOR YOU is to tailor everything specifically to YOU. That's what I do in consultations. It requires much more information than you can give me here, and you deserve much more information than I can give you here. No two women are alike, and addressing your situation requires tailoring all the facts specifically to YOU. I do them all via online video conferencing. You can schedule at MenopauseTaylor.ME. I look forward to meeting you and helping you.

I was expecting to hear about the radiation dose of each mammogram and that being a contributing factor in breast cancer. What are your thoughts on that? What about MRI and dense breast tissue screenings?

You are mistaken. And I do cover that in this breast cancer unit. Video 371 was all about that. This is why I beg you to watch all my videos in order.

Here is a thought…albeit unusual. What about mammo every other year? Thermagraphy every year.Ultra sound every year. Blood test to detect cancer (they exist) every year. Self exam monthly. Clinical exam yearly. Some of these are not covered by insurance. Reduce the frequency of mammogram because over time it might amount to a lot of radiation. From age 45 to 65 that’s 20 mammos vs 10. Think about it. And as a woman gets older, her risk increases. Could environmental forces be a part of that risk? And there is the false positive risk. Consider doing several things to screen for breast cancer, but understand there are potential concerns with mammo. We all have to work this out and take our own beliefs and needs into consideration. To me, doing Mammo every OTHER year and everything I can think of to fill in the gap is a very good trade off. We all must do what we think is best for our own needs and be respectful of ourselves and others.
@MenopauseTaylor6 ай бұрын
As you will se in the very next video (#396), there re many alternatives to mammograms. There are 8 different screening tests for breast cancer. But, as usual, they all have one thing they do better than all the others. But none of them is best for everything. So, I think each woman should have her own "formula" for ensuring that she has the all-clear on her breast surveillance. I think peace of mind is everything.

Thanks for such a brilliant explanation on this topic. Also wondering if exposure to ionising radiation at each yearly mammogram increases lifetime risk of breast cancer?
@MenopauseTaylor9 ай бұрын
I covered this in video 371. The answer is "NO!"
@lindahainke67479 ай бұрын
My understanding is that as we get older, we are higher risk for breast cancer, and if we take HRT, it causes denser breast which would make it harder for a mammogram to detect cancer in an older person, is that correct?

I just had a diagnostic mammogram which saw nothing. Then an ultrasound which found a cyst with debris. The lady that did the biopsy said I better get breast mri’s in the future because my breasts are so dense mammogram won’t be able to detect anything. I am 53, menopause 2 years , for past 10 months on oral norethindrone .35 daily and estradiol patch (can’t remember the strength but it’s one on Dr. Taylor’s chart for preventing the three diseases related to estrogen deficiency (but I do think my fibroids are growing).

That lady is absolutely correct!! Ultrasound & MRI. NO MAMOGRAMS!! It's a money money scheme from insurance companies & it exposes your breasts to radiation each time.

There needs to be a better more accurate test for breast cancer. If testicular cancer was found using the same method, you could be sure the was a better more accurate test 40 years ago.

You know, it’s really interesting, when I had the ultrasound and they had an incidental finding, when I went in for the next discovery ultrasound, I said, aren’t you going to do the whole breast? And they said that’s a really good question but no. We are only going to do the area ordered. I said wouldn’t it be worth it for me if the whole rest was done? The doctor smiled and shook her head and said that she wishes they could just do the whole breast, but they can’t. It would have to be a totally separate order. And it took them four months to get the first order approved!

No two women are alike. The great thing about this education is that you can use it (or refuse it) as you please. There is nothing that is right for all women. We are not robots. You never have to justify your choices to anybody. The goal is to empower you to manage YOUR menopause YOUR way ... and allow all other women to do the same.
@audrey10416 ай бұрын
Agree. I think every other year (imho) is the max, unless there is a very specific reason one is called for and then again, perhaps an mri would be a better alternative anyway in that case. If a woman starts having them at 40, by the time she is 65 , that’s at least 25 ! Not counting call backs. That’s a lot of accumulative radiation . Every other year plus other screening tools including simple ones like monthly self exam and yearly clinical exam , plus yearly ultra sound …there are other things as well…to me anyway…seems like the better, safer, more prudent choice. Of course we are all different and must be respectful of one another.
@MenopauseTaylor6 ай бұрын
@@audrey1041 This should be an individual decision. Guidelines pertain to the population as a whole. They are not for the individual woman. The problem is that both doctors and patients use them on the individual level.

So if it's 70% mammogram for discovering a cancer and 30% self, where do ultrasounds fit in? I often skip mammograms (dense breasts) and get a yearly ultrasound. Had a diagnostic mammogram (3D I believe) today and it was benign. I was birads 3 6 months ago due to a cyst that had debris. Through ultrasound they now classified me birads 2 since the cyst is the same. They say I can go back to regular screenings. I got confused, I thought the birads had to do with density. I do have dense breasts which have become less dense as I'm 50 now. The technician said she believes in mammograms because if you go for thermography and something shows up (other tests too, she may have said ultrasound) , then you're recommended to get a mammogram. The technician says you may as well start with one. . . It's confusing and I have an exceptionally high IQ. All the calls and follow ups they want make me nervous. I'm just listening to hear the word benign, the rest, I may not be listening as well as I should. I watch this channel so I can make the best decisions for myself. Thank you for making them. ❤
