Tell me that you can't have plenty of fun with that in a Nova. People want to say a 396 is a boat anchor. I love'm. Nice build Joe.

Joe Sherman knows his shit. Dudes been building killer engines for a long time. He was one of my influence's when I started building engines in the early 80s.

What are the specs on the engine? Oval or Rectangle port heads? Open or closed chamber heads? Flat tappet or rioller cam? I know the compression is 9.75. The fastest car I ever owned was powered by a 12,5:1cr 396 with open chamber, rect port heads, a factory ZL1 solid cam and an Edelbrock Tarantula intake with an 850 Holley carb on top. The engine was in my '64 Malibu and was backed by a V-Gate shifted M-22 transmission. This was back in 1973 when you could still buy good premium fuel that allowed me to run high compression engines. It was the fastest car in town for years.

Obviously, me too! We were going with a crate 502 for our AWB Nova, but when we found this period-correct early 396 - hey, why not! I was only expecting around 475 HP - oops!

@pauda72 Please see our website referenced in the video, then go to the Quick Tech Inspection section for engine details. For some reason, KZbin won't let me put the URL in this reply.
