Stacy, you've under estimated me. I've been following skating since 1984 and have had repeated viewings of many of these competitions. Outside of Jan Hoffmann, everything was from direct memory, nothing else. And why be so defensive? I'm not discrediting any of Evgeny's accomplishments. I've only indicated that Iris mispoke and that there have been other skaters who have competed in more than 2 Olympic Games.

there ARE more, specificaly from pre WWII Olympics. Gillis Grafstrom was in this event 4 times (winning 3 in row 20,24,28, 2nd place in 32) but that 1st win, was a part of the '20 Antwerp Summer Games and held beginning if April, several months before the rest of the sporting events. Karl Schafer was in 3 (28, 32, 36- winner of the last two).

He's playing more than one character in the opera; that accounts for the changes of music and style. Did you see that? It's an ambitious program. I understand and support that Alexei Yagudin won the gold medal that day. But Evgeni's skate was the most exciting thing any of the men presented that day, and I wasn't even a fan. I was rooting for Todd Eldredge to win.

People, wow, let's get a grip. This is a strong skate here. Plush is ambitious so of course he tried to crank out the triple loop at the end of the opening combination; stepping out of it didn't kill the beauty and technique of the quad-triple. The triple axel is strong, the triple loop to triple flip very impressive and he does lovely camel spins with great extension and good centering. Artistically it was also one of the more ambitious programs of the day, presenting several characters from Bizet's opera and making the most of the dramatic shifts in the music edit. Hell, I didn't even care that he doubled the salchow; there was so much else going on. The one thing I wish the program had was a better conceived piece of straight-line footwork, especially as the footwork in Plush's short program for these Olympics was so notable. I love the flamenco dance influence in the steps though. It was also a very new program and he deserves props for taking the risk. Plushenko may have had first Olympic jitters but there's a lot of very good skating skills here. Look more closely at what he's doing.

The changes of music is tad too many in one skate. It feel disorganised. Yagudin's was so smooth, fluid and harmonised throughout the entire skate with the amazing choreography. Yagudin's victory is well deserved.

Yes, that was a weakness frankly of both of the Russian greats, Plushenko and Yagudin. Their spins at that time were not the equal of Todd Eldredge or later of Stefan Lambiel. However, Plush really worked on improving spins and frankly he got a lot better at them later in his career. We also have to give him huge credit for bringing the Beillman spin into the repertoire for the men. No skater's skills remain static.

20 лет тому назад - квад тулуп в комбинации с тройным тулупом и тройным риттбергером (не чисто выехал, но все-таки) и тройной аксель с ойлером и тройным флипом... 20 лет спустя не всем находящимся в первой десятке мужчин в мире удается прокатать такой контент, не говоря уже об артистичности и пластичности Плющенко. I agree about the program, Jose. I find it a bit disjointed and it's never been a favorite of mine. But what interests me about it was that Plush's coach Alexei Mishin challenged him to push his footwork from Level II to Level III moves, and this represents technical growth in Evgeni's skating. Despite the fall, Plush skated all of the other elements beautifully, although his sit spin grew far more proficient when he was a bit older. Watching it all broke my heart at the time.

Плющенко и Ягудин,уровень просто зашкаливает,21 год прошел,а ни кого подобного до сих пор нет,даже на горизонте,очень жаль... и видать,не в тренере дело,что-то должно еще быть очень сильное в фигуристе,вот Плющенко тренировал Мишин,и Туктамышева тоже его подопечная,но не нахожу я ни чего в Туктамышевой,какая то она искуственно раздутая звезда,ну нет изюминки,а на тройной свой фирменный аксель,заходит как тяжелый бомбардировщик,как по мне,если прокат хочется пересматривать раз за разом,то он тебя зацепил,Плющенко 20 летней давности прокаты пересиатривают и восхишаются,а кто помнит прокаты Туктамышевой хотя бы того сезона,или того же Коляду,тот вообще деревянный...

The program is a little tacky and his arm movements at times look to be all over the place. He was still on the making I guess, cuz I know he became a much better performer later on.

This program was crap. He jumped really well, but everything else was two foot flat skating and flailing his arms to the crescendos of the really bad music edit of Carmen. He legit was just standing and posing for nearly a 1/4 of the program. he even had 2 jumping errors. They weren't big ones, but they were noticeable. He and Trusova deserve each other.
