[3D Binaural Audio] Porsche 911 RSR 2018, 991.2 GT3 R 2019, Cayman 718 GT4 In Action!

So I finally heard and recorded what I consider the best sounding car in the WEC 2018 field but I was quite undecided whether to upload the standard audio video or something with the binaural. The choice fell on the latter. Mainly because the full dedicated video to the 2018 Porsche RSR will be something like 20-min long and yesterday I didn't have much time to edit it.
Not really happy with the result of this binaural compilation, honestly. The 911 RSR is too loud and I had to throw away 50% of the audio recordings I did both because my "3D" microphone can't handle that noise level (from particular spots) and even my portable recorder, to which the mic is linked, doesn't give me a hand in these occasions at all. So I'm sorry since some of the fly bys are distorted and audio level drops drastically for brief moments. Need to update both things soon...
In this video you can also hear the other Porsche's that were testing the same day, namely the new 2019 991.2 GT3 R, the upcoming Cayman 718 GT4 Clubsport and that curious GT2 RS-based test mule. Hope you liked it!
-- What the hell is a 3D/Binaural recording? --
Binaural recordings are reproductions of sound the way human ears hear it. Traditionally, recordings have been made using mono or stereo. Mono uses a single microphone while stereo uses two, spaced apart from each other. Binaural recording takes the stereo method one step further by placing two microphones approximately at the same average distance that exists between one and the other human ear.
To recreate the best effect you must put the microphones in your ears or by using a "dummy head" (wherein a mannequin head is outfitted with a microphone in each ear) because having a real head or a head shape that separates the two microphones is what makes the magic works. In fact if a car passes on your left side the sound will take a few extra microseconds to reach the right ear and it will also be louder in one ear (left) than the other. This is caused by the fact we have a thick skull and spongy brain between the two ears and sound waves interact with the physical constitution of the listener and the surrounding space.

When they brought the RSR to Virginia, it was the loudest car on the track. The Huracan GT3 wasn't nearly as loud. The BMW M8s they had this year were silent. When you're close to the track and the RSR accelerates, it's deafening. It kinda hurts, but you get used to it. What really hurts are the new Lamborghini Super Trofeos, especially when near them as they fly on the straight.

Peak naturally aspirated engine efficiency is at around 1:35 when he goes WOT after the partial throttle thru the curve. Be advised there is a small sound delay because of the distance and he first floors it after its not on the curb. That sound....! Thats peak engine performance without any turbos or mufflers to alter the engine note. That is sound is volumetric efficiency going above what is normal for a race engine.

I don't know what part i like more. But when start the part in 3:05 is one of most loudest and cleaner car sound i have ever heard, i was scared to death because i didn't expect to sound soooooo loud and you can feel it only with a good speaker and amplifier. My sound is Denon DRA F 109 and Cambridge Audio SX 60 it's a greate and cheap compination sound system and with the quality of this video is sooooo cool. The sound of this video is like i am inside the speedway. What a wonderful crystal clear sound whas that. It sounds so perfect, i enjoyed all the video. I think you must do videos from now on with this quality of sound. Also anyone that listen from smartphone speaker he make a huge mistake, because he loose so much. Make a good set of stereo sound , and you will understand what you loose so many years.

panayiotis konstantos you have to listen to this with good IEMs, it's an entirely different experience. Maybe go IEM plus subwoofer if you can. Speakers can't convey this

Glad you appreciated it so much! I'm never that happy with the final quality result of these binaural videos to be honest (I heard them live and a few hours later I listen to them again on these recordings so I spot better the differences). But then I read comments like yours and I understand that maybe, with a slightly better audio set, I could appreciate it even better! Yes, my future plan is to record most of my videos with the binaural mic. But now it's quite impossible since I have many issues with my current equipment. I can't record fly bys and from a few other spots since audio is always distorted or even muted (it "feels" feels those pressure changes in the air caused by a car flying by). I have to change and try different portable recorders and microphones as soon as I can spend some money

Very interesting Doppler fx demonstration. At moments, the revs rise same as the cars gains distance from the mic. So there's very little rise in pitch of the engine.

tommihommi1 But half the aero and chassis rigidity. Prob not on race slicks too. Gt2 is still a street car but wouldn’t doubt that mule is something closer to race spec. You are right tho too, Monza is all about the straights, that 200hp will make a big difference. Quite hilarious that street cars are going to be faster than actual race cars. Regulations need to ease up if you ask me.

Stirling Moss rigidity shouldn't be that much different, they use very similar technology. It's probably on slicks, no way it's keeping up otherwise. Regulations on power via restrictors and on aero by not allowing anything active are kinda a necessary evil to make it a race.

Porsche has finally done it....they've made a 911 sound special. That RSR is simply unbelievable. Maybe its something with the exhaust routing and the fact it's mid-engined...for chrissake you can hear the thing on the other end of the track! Bozzy, if you're not responsible for the sound design on the next Forza or Gran Turismo, I will be disappointed. get an ohrwurmaudio binaural mic instead of the old one you're using. much lower noise level and can handle 120dB+ with no problem. However, you'll probably need some kind of attenuator in case your recorder can't handle the high level output, that's usually where distortion happens.

Thanks for the info on both sides. I'm not an expert in the field but yes the first thing I want to try is a new recorder. I noticed the microphone changes completely based on the device it's linked to. So that's the first try. But of course I need to try a newer mic too
