3D Carved Casket Cake - How To With The Icing Artist

Learn how to make a fun casket cake. Well as fun as a casket can be. This cake was made for a funeral director. It is a chocolate cake covered in fondant then painted with brown food colouring, to look like wood. This my first go at painting on fondant and I loved it! It was so easy and so much fun!

I always have such a hard time doing the "crumb coat" like the cake starts falling apart :/ Maybe I should leave the cake to cool longer?

Oh Ashley Hi Ashley, I always find cooling the cake for a while helps. Even over night. I also stick my cakes in the freezer to help harden up a bit before crumb coating. Give that a try :)

Love this, however, this looks like a half sheet cake. How long did this take and what would a person charge for something like this, a guestimate?

I used a 9 x 13 which I think is a quarter sheet cake. I think it took me 4 or 5 hours but it was a while ago now and I can't remember for sure. It depends on where you're from but a bakery near me would probably charge around $100-130 CAD. Hope that helps :)
