Geese are our good friends sons. It's funny to see these kids as rockers bc they'd come over for sleepovers and stuff when they were little. My son was/is friends with Cam and Max (the drummer). They all met at Brooklyn Friends School. I love the band, though. The new record is brilliant. So proud of them.

@@ghostboy1564 Just good kids...well they're no longer kids. I remember when Max was around 4th or 5th grade saying he wanted to be a rock star. Was always fun to have all the kiddos around. We're still close with the parents.

Recently caught Geese live and was blown away. As a point of reference, I'm 60. Geese and Idles are the best bands working right now., but the age at which Geese are crushing right now is beyond impressive. Cameron also has me questioning the way I've been singing for last 40 years.

Their first album wasn’t that interesting when I skimmed through it but 3D Country blew me away. I haven’t been able to stop listening. I think this band has the same potential as black midi or BCNR

I hear a lot of inspiration from Ween. The manipulation of his vocals and varying styles of music across the album is very Chocolate and Cheese or Quebec. Sounds a lot like Gene Ween who also has a very elastic voice.

I was surprised by your comments about 2122. To me this is an absolutely perfect opener and actually the most modern sounding track on the album as it ramps up the chaotic energy to a level not heard on the 70s rock it's influenced by. Tracks like Gravity Blues and Crusades feel more like straight forward pastiches of 70s country rock to me (though equally great). Also I wish I loved I See Myself as much as you. It has a great sound and is emotionally resonant, but the refrain is repeated so much it grates on me after a while (though not enough for me to flat out dislike it). Despite these slight disagreements, really enjoyed this video and your comments and insights.

Thanks for this. This album is phenomenal. I've seen them live twice and it's an intense experience. They are all deep into what they do. Cameron commands that stage, yet they definitely feel like a solid unit very aware of each other. Your perspective expanded my own and I appreciate it.

With their second LP, they made a huge leap, the beauty of the melodies is remarkable, and the singer's interpretations and vocal modulations are remarkable. I can't stop listening to their LP, and I assure you it hasn't happened to me in a while. I'm in trouble I have a list of artists to explore, Squid Murder Capital Fantaine DC, not only post punk also The Arcs etc..... There is so much great "rock" out there to discover and enjoy. A perfect example of his lyrics being incomprehensible on this album to me is the refrain at the end of “Mysterious Love”. I’m certainly not the first person to notice this, but it sounded like he was simultaneously saying “some people live alone forever” and “some people live along the river”. At first I thought that if it was the latter, it was a sort of abstract way of implying “plenty of fish in the sea” so people live along the river hoping to catch a good fish. Turns out I was just overthinking. AVAA, by the way. I’m rewatching this review since it was recently announced that Geese is opening for GVF, and I remembered you mentioned them in this review.

Great review. I enjoyed your prologue. Just to continue your thought, Talking Heads were another privileged band. Chris Frantz went to Shadyside Academy in Pittsburgh (Frick and Mellon families attended) and three-quarters of the band went to RISD. Television's Tom Verlaine and Richard Hell went to prep school Sanford School in Delaware and The Strokes we know their story. Thurston Moore went to St. Joseph's in Danbury, CT and Kim Gordon went to UCLA Lab School where notable alumni include Leonardo DiCaprio and Jason Schwartzman (Phantom Planet). The nature versus nurture argument always intrigues me. For every rich snob kid artist you have a dropout raised in poverty who made their mark as an amazing artist. I, too, am an aging nineties rocker and I was immediately bit by Geese. I went to see them in a small club with about 90 other people and haven't enjoyed a live show like that in a long time. Thanks for the review and I will keep abreast to your future videos. AVAA.

Just in case to clarify from my side.. I left some comments about Arctic Monkeys music and also AM (which I don't believe it's their best album, though), but I've never been pissed. I really love the freedom that you have in deciding what you want to review or not! As I take notes and listen to most of your suggestions, I like to give some suggestions in return, when possible. I think they are at least as influential as the Strokes were, so since I respect your analysis so much, I'd like to hear your opinion on old albums. But you might as well never listen to them from here on out and completely ignore them, and that's perfectly fine too. I'm really curious to listen to this album now. for your question about reviewing AM: I think you should listen to their debut and go from there. each album is different and their sound evolves for some and devolves for others. personally, i think each one is just different enough and i have my favorites, namely their debut and their third album. AM, not so much lol its still good tho. They have a very interesting backstory too

21:24 was hearing you talk about the album cover, and apparently the album mostly is based off the idea of a cowboy taking psychadelic drugs and going wandering into the desert, at least according to the background section on the wiki, honestly that idea makes a lot of the lyrical concepts link a lot more like on undoer and st elmo Nevermind !! AVAA but .. strange take on ‘Dad’-jokes/rock etc. It just refers to a sensibility shared by a lot of domesticated, middle aged men who are a couple decades behind on current culture. Scratching my head on how you connected it to patriarchy + subjugating women. I think it just happens to not be a trait as commonly found in women/mothers. I suspect the term hits different for you since you happen to fall in the target demo of ‘dad’-things. Still, I appreciate that your music reviews even get me thinking about such things. Respect.

I don't know much about Geese, but I do know Goose is a great band. And no, they are not spoiled kids living off their parents in NYC. Their 2nd album "Dripfield" is top notch. They're from Norwalk CT, not far from the city. Not post punk, more jam band. Give it a spin. Hungersite, Dripfield, The Whales and Hot Tea are stand outs. And as for Lou and Long Island, I'm from the Island, trust me, its not all posh, and back then, a lower middle class family could send a kid to Syracuse...

Isn’t all rock dad-rock at this point (including female-led rock like PJ Harvey etc.)? With rock so marginalised these days. Dad’s and mom’s are slouching toward oblivion with our album collection. And even arena-fillers (like the song-less Foo Fighters) are an echo of the rock explosions of the 60’s and 70’s. And Greta Van Zeppelin are so derivative they are basically proof of Baudrilliard’s theory of simulcra. 3D Country was my album of the year. Rock is Dead. Long live Dad-Rock.

There are a million and one bands I could name that they're "ripping off" before I even mentioned Television. Regardless, "rip off" is disingenuous, reductive, narrow. They are an incredibly versatile band that pulls inspiration from numerous different styles of music. Post punk, blues, southern/country rock, funk, alt/indie rock, art rock, etc. Point being, they cover far too many bases to just simply pigeonhole them as copycats TL;DR: they're a Television rip off if Television is the only rock band you've listened to
