A great consise video, that tells me what I need to know about 3d. Before finding this I wasted hours working out if I needed to plug something in the 3d sync port. I didn't need to, as I just need to buy the DLP link glasses, no messy wires. Well explained.

I do not think it is a good video because currently nobody has Bluray players, since the beginning of this decade everything is projected from the computer and does not explain how to see 3D from there.

Yes - There is NO information about this in the manual (which wasn't included with my projector, UHZ50). At least a short blurb would have saved a lot of time and angst about this. Also, which glasses? This was a nice explanation about what is needed, also should have been in the manual. A computer connection to the 3d setup demonstration would be useful, too, since there are several different modes that you wouldn't find from a blu ray player. Also should be in the manual, a link to this vid ;)

For those wondering RF link is told by the projector how to sync the shutters (using that little box). DLP link uses a light sensor on the front of the glasses to syncronise the shutters with the screen refresh in front of you. Occasionally the glasses may go out of sync (the left eye will get the right eye image and the right eye will see the left image) meaning the picture will look weird. If this happens just tap the button on the glasses again to invert the sync again. Sync errors usually occur if you watch the screen then look down at your phone, or have an LED lamp in your room that throws the sync off. I had a HD26 and the 3D was excellent, but now I had a UHD30 and the 3D is a 'little off' to my eyes. In YUV colourspace it seems to display an extra frame or something when shots change which is uncomfortable. In RGB colourspace it looks better but there is still a judder on fast paced action scenes. I suspect this is the result of the number of times the screen has to refresh each colour for each eye. I also have a passive 3D TV and there is no judder as it shows both frames at the same time interlaced and also it doesn't have to keep rescanning the image in passes like the projector. It's a shame as I love big screen 3D, but it's just a little bit uncomfortable to watch on the UHD30. I've been searching the web for more information and optimal settings for the projector in 3D mode, but there's not much information out there. If I ever upgrade in the future, I'll most likely be considering a 3LCD type instead of a color wheel based unit in hopes the 3D mode will be a little more comfortable.

I've got an HD50 and going into 3d mode blows up my projected image so that it slightly extends outside of the area of my screen. It seems that all image size adjustment options are no longer available in 3d mode, but does there happen to be a way I could shrink the image a bit so that it fits on the screen?

Hey there, Just Saw your comment, if your movie is side by side then You can absolutely Just play 3d movies from There, it Just takes one extra step in the menu, to select the option for side by side 3d movies.

How exactly does this work? I just got my Optoma UHZ65UST today instead of buying a new TV that doesn't support 3d. I got 4 3d glasses with it. I haven't been able to play any of my 3d movies that I have though. I want to play my 3d movies from my NAS through my PC (with classic media player or vlc) which is connected via HDMI to a Denon receiver. The Optoma is also connected to the Denon receiver. When I play a 3d SBS or OU format movie, it just shows it side by side or top/bottom, but the Optoma doesn't recognize the 3d format (3d option in menu is still not selectable). When I play a 3d movie via Optoma over network, it detects it's 3d, but on all movies I either get that video or audio is not supported. I don't have 3d bluray player in my PC, i'm just streaming them via the NAS > PC > Denon > Optoma.

@@coffeebreakhero3743 Thanks for the suggestion. Playing with de resolution works. At some point I noticed the 3d menu options were enabled. But it is not always certain for which resolution. It doesn't always seem to work, but anything highter than 1920x1080 definitely doesn't work. I think it also works better if you change the resolution through the Nvidia Control Panel (if you have a Geforec card). And also you need to turn of HDR in your screen settings under Windows 10. Unfortunately it's a bit of a hassle to get it working (not very user friendly), but it seems to work most of the times now. It would be better if this could be automatically detected and switch resolution automatically.

Bullshit... on my Optoma UHD 550X the 3D function activates in menu only when the projector is connected to the PC with 120Hz refresh rate output. Even so, it is useless, any 3D content sent via e.g. Cyberlink PowerDVD is not displayed - Cyberlink PowerDVD attempts to get the projector working in 3D but fails with the message "...could not enable 3D playback. Try choosing a different 3D display device." Good advice, anything else but not an Optoma...
