Hey guys!! So The Nightmare Before Christmas is definitely one of my favorite movies, and with Halloween/ October just around the corner I wanted to challenge myself to make this cake. Me and my sister are gonna make this for Halloween 😍 I have a couple questions. What is the width of the dowel? Do you make your own Fondant, or is it store bought? @TheLovelyBaker

I tried painting white food color on black fondant once and it never stayed white.. it turned grey. How do you get yours to stay white?

I have totally had that happen to me too, it sucks!! I find that the second coat really helps. I traced out the lines first then added another coat and it did stay white. It really helps to let the first layer dry completely before painting over it again.

Thank you! I actually buy my black and red fondant too since they are so tricky to color, but I know what you mean it took me a really long time before I felt confident using it and I STILL have bad days. Any of the really dark colors just "break" so easily since they have so much dye in them, it can be a massive pain in the butt. If you have any specific questions about what you had trouble with I'd be happy to see if I can help at all:)

@@kristinrush Hey there! I ended up just winging the cake on my own. I got a cheap but very long dowel from Michael's and made his bust and then cut it down based on what I needed for my cake. I used Wilton fondant and it went great. Too bad I can't attach a photo!

Love the cake!! What size is the wooden dowel being used?

Thank you!! Unfortunately I do not remember how tall the dowel was, I remember eyeballing the length after holding it up to my cake and cut it based on that (butt-head answer I know, so sorry!!!). I do know that the wooden dowel was an inch in diameter and that size was perfect for the thickness of the neck after I added the fondant.

The Lovely Baker doesn't the cake loose its moisture? I usually have to work backwards so the cake stays moist:(

Not at all! Once you ice the cake with buttercream and cover it on fondant it is no longer exposed to any air, so the moisture is locked in. If the cake has a particularly dense crumb I will help it out by brushing it with simple syrup, but once it is covered there shouldn't be any issues with the cake drying out:)
