How did you calculate the angles for the side of the faces to fit perfectly?

Hi, there's a thing called "diedral angles" in polyhedrons. If you google them, you can find them on wikipedia. All those angles are used to build each polyhedron

you can simply align the faces to the base pentagon and save a lot of time than doing it one by one manually
