Thanks and me too. It actually started as an idea to make more fun of Nintendo's greed by printing the Nintendo logo, only modified so it would be Nint€ndo :D But then I realised the potential for the plates.

You can use a schottky diode in series with the positive lead to get your 0.4v voltage drop from the USB supply, if you're REALLY paranoid about using the correct voltage.

i would use heat shrink in the for the ground and other cable to avoid any accidents and for finishing touch sand it for the view

No, it won't fit XL as such. I don't have the XL so I couldn't design two versions, but it was my hope from the start that someone with XL would measure it and send me the info and I can make the XL version as well. I'd be very happy if you're willing to help. Since I'm also a Zelda fan, I can create a Hyrule shield plate as well :)

I just found this out as well; the "old" 3DS-XL actually has the power port and pins exposed off of center from the device, so the design will have to be changed.

Wow this is so awesome. Now I do not have to replace the charging port but use this one. But one problem is that my 3DS charging port is not at the middle. Its more towards the right. Do you have some other design?

I'm glad you like it, thank you. Sorry, I don't have any other designs, since this is the only 3DS I have. I did provide source files for Fusion360, so it shouldn't be too hard to change the model if you feel like trying.

Hey there, awesome video. I'm thinking about printing only the charger part, sold with the wire and the dock I will do it myself with a simpler design (actually, handmade, not printed) cause I own an old 3ds, but I'll be trying it. I had to borrow my brother's charger to play but he wants it as well, so it will come in handy

Yes, please check the Thingiverse link, you can find the XL page in the model info. The original Fusion file is also on Thingiverse and you can use it to modify the model anyway you like.

Nah, that's highly unlikely. The official voltage is 4.7, which is very close to 5V. There are also protections inside the 3DS to prevent damage from overvolting.

I'm afraid I don't, just the new version. Someone made a case for New XL, you can try modifying that to fit your 3DS. The files are linked on Thingiverse.

Not yet, the prototype is being printed/tested by someone else first, because I don't own XL myself. Should be soon. If it helps, the charger part is exactly the same, so you can already print that and attach the wires.
