Was the copper tape on the vice grips to keep grease off your tools and hands?

Thats was just some scrap copper sheet I hammered around it, without the copper it was slipping off the nut the copper helped me get a better grip and would prevent the ballscrew getting scratched if it slipped and banged into it. A proper size wrench is the way to go but Im bad about losing small wrenches so I was just making do at the time, this was filmed about a year ago
