This is the go-to channel of why a 3d printer is great for any workshop

I love seeing the practical prints. With storage, the seems to be a couple of levels: individual moulded holders (each piece has its onlyone place), generic individual holders (a single type of piece goes in the slot), box containers (a bunch a similar items to into the same 'box', and general unsorted. The trick i see a lot of people struggle with, myself included, is to work out which type of storage to use where. It's so tempting to just go with one type for everything, like the custom moulded holders.

Did you consider gridfinity? Would have been good to add these models to the community for that system.
@v4lgrind

I would have used Gridfinity, but only because all my other stuff already is in that system. There is a clear advantage of skipping the bottom grid for drawers that lack height like this, you get a few extra millimeters to play with.

@@v4lgrindtheres a f360 add-on that has tons of customability Le0Michine. Can change the height and have "hollow" bins where the bottom isn't solid. As well as other things

First like and comment!! Found your channel a few months ago. Most of your stuff doesn't pertain to me, but you are still inspirational and enjoyable to watch.

I'm sure I'm just adding to the gridfinity chorus, but the customization of gridfinity is awesome and you can use the gridfnity generator in fusion directly to make any size. It's truly been a game changer in my shop.

In sketchup if you draw one of the small deviders in the white tray and copy them then if you change one they all change as long as you dont make them unique. Saves time

I really like that double stacked layer idea, 50% extra storage space for next to nothing, got to be worth doing. I'm still sorting my new to me Lista drawers using genuine partitions, but they are nothing like as good as these. I might have missed it, checked twice, what type of filament did you use?

Great job. May I suggest just adding in some circle cutouts for the screws at the front that way you could still go full height?

This is why i own 3D printers. The only thing I would change is to add a textured TPU insert to prevent the loose carbide from moving in the trays. Also in the printing montage do you only have one printer still?

You can actually add another left-right slider over to the shallow tool holders.

I would like to make Gridfinity bases for all my Kennedy chests and boxes. Love the BXA toolholders, I'm going to go find your file for that. Might wall mount mine above the lathe tailstock end.

Rather than wooden shims would a strip of adhesive backed closed cell foam insulation work? Front and back? Maybe even side to side. It would add a little preload to keep the inserts from sliding.

You could make up little clips to hold the trays together.

Then the whole assembly would shift around.
@mikegraham7078
@mikegraham7078 Ай бұрын
@@michaelgleason4791 It seems the issue he is having is the cosmetic pain of having gaps. The clips would solve that without being in the way. Yes, the whole assembly might move 1/8" or so if you are aggressive when opening/closing the drawers. The benefit of the clips vs. the shims is that it is easy to change if you want to swap out a bin for another bin.

I notice you use Sketchup for your designs. I love sketchup and use it a lot, but ie always been told it’s not great for printing. Do you find it limits you at all. Are you using special plugins or anything to make it work better for printing?
