G'day Austen ol son.....this is my first ever kick starter, thx to Uncle Jessy for pointing me over last month. Im planning on using this case for 1/10 - 1/32 size Scale RC Crawlers (4x4's). I just wish i new about the kickstarter Earlier so i could have got a licence to sell, these would sell well in my hobby and the included terrain would show trucks in various articulations😁. Cheers from a backer Downunder🙃(Australia)

Hey There! You can purchase the commercial license from fableforgegaming.com. Just send the team a message on KS with your order number and they'll refund the KS pledge for the upgrade. That sounds like an awesome project though, please send us some photos when it's all complete!! Cheers!

I was a backer for the commercial license, after running the numbers and the amount of hours needed to print a 330x330 with acrylic shelves, selling for anything less than $400 dollars would not be worth it, and I just cant see this selling like hot cakes at that price. It would still require assembly. Its a great idea and really cool for personal stuff, just didn't expect it to be this much to produce.

Hey @collect3D. For commercial, if you're trying to print quantity of these I would recommend the following. 0.6 nozzle, rear base piece - we included dxf files for if you want to cut it from another material so there is no print time and the cost is very low, the fasteners are really cheap so the rest just depends on your print set up. We did one omni a day during testing with 3 machines and they each had a spoll of filament so it was only about $60 to print one and 24 hour of print time.
@Redo3D

@@AustenHartley Thanks for the reply Austin. For my print farm I charge X per hour per machine, so it would be around 75-80 hours of print time at .4mm layer height and that is if you have a nozzle that can flow 20mms3. Filament is marked up as well 30% packing and labor calculated, from a business perspective its a lot more expensive. Charging anything less than $2 an hour print time is about the bare minimum any fully time print farm would print at. Print time and filament alone you're looking at $260, no including labor, shipping, acrylic, I think $400 is a decent price point if people are willing to pay. If you're looking to just build a personal display case, then just the cost of filament $60 and the fasteners its quite inexpensive.

Defs the best way to do it! I just dont want to recommend people cut electric cables for safety reasons or incase they cut at the wrong spot and toast the LED strip haha. But yeah the LEDS come with instructions on how to do it too.

Great video, really helps for backers. I thought for sure we'd have to cut the acrylic corners off, but awesome that we don't even need to do that. I've used acrylic before in making an enclosure for my 3D printer, and the only annoying thing was that it was the static charge it had, especially after pulling off the plastic film. Any ideas on getting rid of that static charge so it doesn't attract every particle in the air to it?
@AustenHartley
@AustenHartley Жыл бұрын
Thank you Richard! I think the static contributed to my glue getting on the acrylic in the video haha. I think maybe washing it first could help.. will test to be sure 👌

While watching this, a random thought popped up - is it possible/feasible to make a mini Detolf-like cabinet? By using the rear bezel as a 'floor bezel' and the front window (without the front piece attached) as a shelf and another set of depth pieces and front window. Of course it would basically need to be disassembled every time you want to add/remove something in the bottom and I'm not sure how much total weight the bottom shelf would be able to withstand. A good expansion/update later on would be a side window that's removed differently so you can still do this without having to dissasemble the entire thing to reach a lower shelf

Why are there no 'Longer modular pieces' (200/300mm) for use with acrylic sheets? The long pieces in the files have the large cutouts for printed shelves...

In my country I can only find acrylic glas up to 204x304mm and I can only get thicknesses in full mm intervalls. So 1/8 Inch is 3.2 mm 1/4 Inch is 6.35 mm So will 3 and 6mm fit well? And can I find a custom option that is equal or smaller than 204x304mm (11,04*8,03inch) ?

@AustenHartley
@AustenHartley Жыл бұрын
@@Raffix394 For sure! The whole thing is modular so you just use less pieces. Also worth noting, you can just use two pieces of acrylic on top of each other (there will be a little seam but you can put the shelf where the seam is and it works great, we did this during prototyping to avoid wasting so much acrylic!)

After all this time still no update on if the covers replace the front bezel or does one click it over them? What backplate do I need to print if it doesn't connect to the side, mine will be like 2 corners and 3 pieces wide. What is a proper way to measure acrylic plate size when you haven't got any of the standard display sizes? No matter if I use raft, supports, brims or nothing the corners are just not beautiful. ALways something not smooth on them.
@AustenHartley

The covers snap overtop. There is a PDF in the folder with backplate instructions that show how it is built to any size. There is an excel sheet that will give you the exact acrylic dimensions. And there is a 90 degree corner option if you don’t want to dial in the print settings for the corners!

So I Love this product, and just got access to the files, however when you get around to downloading them from the shared folder, there are a few of them that are too long to unzip. So if you download ALL files at once, it can be a bit annoying trying to figure out which folder they are in, and then going back to download them as individual files.

Hi Austen, As for the dept pieces, can you mix a large one with a smaller one ? Also, how large of a case can you really built. (I was thinking something in the 48''x36'' range...). I would assume the limitation would be the weight the 4 magnets in the front panel are able to take? TIA
@AustenHartley
@AustenHartley Жыл бұрын
Hey! You cannot mix a large and a small! if you want bigger than the 4 depth standard, you would need to print them individually. The front cover has grooves to take the weight, the magnets are just to help so that wont be an issue!

First, thanks for the video and the project, really like the way it is looking so far. I have two comments: I wanted to use acrylic for the back panel as well, and I thought it was weird that I have to cut the corners off for it. Why didn't you put the groove in so that a square panel could be used like you did for the door? That would make using acrylic for this so much easier. I also think you should use capture nuts like you did for the side pieces on the back and front frame, that way the screws won't be visible from the front you wont need cover plates. Only two modifications I have found so far that would make this an even greater product.

I printed a pair of 330*330 ones. Did not print back plates as I used mdf for the backing instead. It took about 1.8kg of filament each. Close to 2 roles per case. With a 0.6mm nozzle on my Ender 3 total print time for each was somewhere around the 80 hours range. It's a lot of filament and a lot of time per case.
