I really like this video. Not only for your kind words, but it really gives an insight to 3D printing and that it is far from just pressing print. I knew there were somd things to consider, but this is another level. Thanks for your hard work and I can't wait to see the chess set and play it with my friends and family :) thanks again, great job and perseverance :)

I love chess. When your screen had the messages put up with the windows sound I kept looking at my computer trying to figure what was going on thinking there was an error or crashing app. You got me!

That was very entertaining :). When I started 3d printing a few months for my end of degree project I knew I would be hocked but not up to the point I would love to work on this. I've thinking about doing a chess board and pieces myself, but I only print in one colour. If you had problems with one of them you could have just printed the board with the tiles of one color and leave a notch in the others, and then snap / glue the rest of the tiles (or do it puzzle style). I might end up doing it myself. Thanks for sharing!

Hey there Just wondering how long it took you to print each side of the figures (white/black) once you got around thebglitter issue and what machine you used. Cheers
@3dpprofessor Жыл бұрын
i printed them both at the same time using a JGMaker IDEX 3D printer. I don't remember exactly how long it look, but taking a guess I'd say somewhere around 12 hours. Defiantely a day. Start the print at the start and come back at the end of the day, something like that.

Nice video. I love Chess. Question: I ordered a 3d printed chess set. I noticed that all the chess pieces were composed of three separate parts that had been glued together. I assume this is common but isn't it better to have the full chess piece printed out in-whole, as you show here? The one I had broke apart where it was glued when the piece dropped from the table to the floor so had to be glued back.
@3dpprofessor20 күн бұрын
I have no idea why they'd need to make it in 3 parts and glue it together. As for it breaking apart, that's unfortunate. But it should have been able to withstand a simple drop.

What dedication! 👏🏼 Little question: do you have a link to the silky filament that makes layer lines magically disappear? 😉
@AndrewAHayes4 жыл бұрын
I would have sanded all four sections and then wiped clean with a tack cloth and then sprayed a poly clear coat which would restore the colour. I get the same issue when sanding guitar body's but when I apply the clear coat the colour is good again

@3dpprofessor3 жыл бұрын
The STL is from Imphenzia, so I'd say you need to take it up with him. But there are tons of 3D printable chess sets on Yeggi, so go check that out.

Do you know where I can files Stl files for throne of kings chess set to 3d print

Do you mean the kickstarter from, like, 5 years ago? I don't know. Maybe contact the manufacturer. They might have them. Otherwise you're going to just have to buy a set and scan them, but then you'd have a set, so I don't know if you need to 3D print them any more.

How much it costs to do that chess set?
@3dpprofessor9 ай бұрын
In terms of material, probably only about $30. But then there's the $600 or $6000 for the 3D printers I printed them on, and then of course there's my time. All in all, if I were counting the cost it wouldn't be worth it, but I had a lot of fun, so that's what counts.

Hi, I got a chess board from thingverse that is to be printed in vase mode (the pieces): www.thingiverse.com/thing:3794879 But, even printing with PETG it breaks very easily, the pieces do... So... I have two questions, that reflect the possible solutions i came up with: 1 - Can i print several walls? 2 or 3 or 5? Together they should be stronger... 2 - Can i, in vase mode or not, setup some kind of spiral infill? I mean, printing the chess piece from the centre and spiral out without gapps? I am a beginer in 3d printing and this might be the wrong place to ask this questions... Sorry about that... Thanks.

How much would this printing cost compared to buying a new chess board LOL
@3dpprofessor3 жыл бұрын
The print? Pennies. Maybe a few dollars at most. The Printer... well, that's a bit more.

Uhm... I mean. The video is kool n all n the chess set is nice. But if you're going to race to do something in a video... Hide the print that isn't supposed to be done yet off camera? xD I've been planning to make a custom chess set to print for a while. But i've stayed away from getting a dual nozzle printer as i hear of to many problems with them so ill design mine in 2 pieces that print separately then press fit together after :3
@3dpprofessor4 жыл бұрын
That will probably work. Just make sure you add a little tolerance to the parts you want to press in.
@JessieTehEmoGurl4 жыл бұрын
@@3dpprofessor Oh yas of-course, learnt that very early on. My first project in fusion 6 months ago was a simple gear system and immediately realized the importance of tolerances. Since then i made a fully custom carriage for an E3D V6 hotend that took allot of time to design but when printed everything fit together perfectly n it works great ^.^
