3D scanning Church with multiple cameras from ground and air

This time I wanted to make 3D scanning for #GaussianSplatting with multiple cameras including Drone. From the ground I used my scanner wand which has 360 camera on top, Dji action 2 in the middle and Insta360 Go 3 S at the bottom. All the image data was then tracked and trained in Postshot. I'm suprised and happy

Amazing work oli, and even in that short video you highlighted what I was doing wrong when trying to do a street previously using the 1 inch 360, I asked post shot to pull too many images from the video wasting cpu time and calculation time! Amazing you only used 1000 images from 4 different cameras, only 250 each camera for a whole interior walk around!

Olli's work is amazing as always, thanks for the video! But now talking about the technology itself, I expected better quality in the final result. Of course, there are the issues of them being action cameras, which affects the quality, but I can't help but wonder if there's room for improvement. Would using cameras with larger sensors and better dynamic range, combined with 300k interactions of training, produce an extremely superior result?

Amazing as usual. 160k steps wow! Does that make a huge difference compared to the default 30k ?

looks great, but after so many photos taken .. I am affraid to ask how big the model is :-D a few gigs? and also how do you know what limit to set as when to "stop training" and the "max splat count"?

I saw I guy using meshlab and postshot. It looked amazing. He then put everything into unreal engine and had a character running around. I'm sure it was meshlab. I didn't realise you could pull anything into postshot like that. No tutorial l, just a video.

Terrific detail Olli! How did you you get PostShot to resolve the point cloud so cleanly on the church without it trying to calculate tons of points way out in the distance? I tried to do an interior of an office in Manhattan, and the skyline was visible through the windows and it was trying to build the point cloud a few kilometers out... most of the points in steps 2/3 of PostShot were being calculated from the exterior vs. the interior and was taking forever to resolve.

Yes. Postshot takes quite long time to calculating the Camera tracking phase. This took over two hours before it was ready to train Gaussians. But new MCMC profile makes quite decent result. And it is worth to wait. But even more accurate result can be achieved when pointcloud and camera tracking is done separately in Reality Capture.

There are some color inconsistencies between the cameras, isn't it a problem for the solver? Or you don't care, you just throw everything into postshot and it chooses 1000 best frames? :) The result is great.

Wouldn’t it be more efficient to set GoPros to Timelapse photo mode and set interval to something like 1 second? Much less data to work with, and photos will be sharper than frames grabbed from video.

just drag images from both of your cameras into it and let the postshot figure it out. Camera Tracking feature is quite good it can generate point cloud from multiple different cameras.
