If you’ve got the time, take a month of maintenance after a few months of dieting and your performance improves, your adherence improves, and you get hungry for the sport again more than a donut.

I can definitely see the benefit to this. I find that I don’t need quite that long, but the biggest mistake I had made was too big a diet break (surplus calories) and it defeated the purpose. Some of us have a harder time being off the diet than others. When I am engaged, I am zeroed in on the diet and very monklike. But if I’m off, like if family is in town or traveling, I have a much harder time keeping it to maintenance only. It’s a battle I’ve gotten much better with though, as the last time family was over, I kept calories to maintenance. I do agree that if we dig dig dig too long there is a greater chance of relapse. I do give you guys a lot of credit who get into true stage condition. I’m at the point where the hip flexors are in and lower abs, ab veins starting to show, but this is usually where I stop. I’m gonna really try to push this time to see if I can do it. Just personal reasons really, no show or anything.

Having some low days interspersed when knowingly in a surplus (family in town for two weeks, or what have you) is a really nice way to eat a bit above maintenance, but still keep thing in check: both with body weight AND with mental discipline.

Do you think 5 and 2 is better than other ratios? For example 7 and 3, 10 and 4 or 3 and 1?

Hi great podcast your channel is always full of fantastic content. A question about deloads on the muscle and strength pyramids. while deloading do you just deload the entire weeks workout including isolations. Or compounds only. and can I expect any gains in strength while cutting and doing the intermediate bodybuilding program. Thanks
@AberrantArt4 жыл бұрын
From what I understand it's the entire workout, however the smaller isolation movements will have less of an effect on fatigue than compound. I would still cut the isolation a couple reps short of normal though. And the progress during a cut is more likely the newer you are to training and the less lean you are. The more years of proper training the less progress is made in general, especially in a deficit. Same with leaness, if you're already lean and in a deficit, it's less likely to make significant progress.
