3DO FZ-1 Faulty Console From Japan..... My Journey

This time on the Game Room, I show you a recent pickup. A faulty Panasonic 3DO FZ-1 Console. I talk a little bit about the 3DO Console in general and discuss what I did to repair this console...

I have 3 of these. I replaced the power capacitors as they always go.

I just brought a 3DO off e-bay. It powered up fine and loaded the sampler disk. However when I tried a copied disk, it loaded then crashed during play. Then the console would power up with the red light and 3DO image on the screen but not allow me to open the disc tray. Now it won’t power on at all and I’ve changed the plug fuse. Any suggestions or help?

How did you power the 3do? From 240v should run on 100v Japanese.

When I had a Goldstar 3DO, it would read backups and not eject *but* the laser in those systems were not great, struggle to read Cd-rs unlike the FZ10 I had that read them excellent.

Can you play North American 3DO games on the Japanese 3DO Console ?

Yes you can as most 3DO's are region free.

The more switch on the back is a 240p /480i switch. 240p can make games run a little faster.

Thanks to My Life In Gaming I now know what that switch actually does and its awesome! Makes the console Output 240P instead of the soft interlaced 480i mode that the 3DO consoles normally do!!

I just got a 3DO. The damn thing won't read any disks

Time to take that bad boy apart and investigate it. Listen out for motor spinning up and you if you don’t see the laser attempting to move, it could be a broken gear like I show in this video.
