@3DPrintingNerd After designing some of my own speakers from hdf/mdf and wood I have a simple suggestion that should improve sound quality. First, I would paint a couple coats of resin or auto filler on the inside of the speaker cabinet. The more airtight the cabinet is, the better. You don't want layer lines or gaps on the inside. Bondo is another option. Second, throw some rockwool filler on the inside when you close it up. Those very cheap upgrades would improve the quality to comparable retail speakers.

Love the video as always Joel. I will say this... If the community wants these types of products to exist and grow (professionally designed, end user made), the cost should be better than competitive with the mass produced options. A designer needs to be paid for their work and the components cost money to source and package into kits... but the bill of materials and shipping should be overall much cheaper. The R&D should be cheaper as mass production of many of the components is being pushed off to the end user. The community should support the companies that are being honest with their cost and seeking a reasonable profit margin to pay their staff and develop new products. Acting like this type of product deserves a premium because of the novelty is kinda insulting to all the makers out there who would want to support it.

10% infil should not be enough for this kind of application. Upwards of 40-50% gives much less resonance if coupled with some decent sound dampening inside the cabinet.

Only audio things I've printed have been speaker/headphone stands and under desk mount for a DAC.
@RichFreemanАй бұрын
@@DarthV506 yeah, I'd personally not invest in something like this without a review that includes measurements. I don't care what color the cabinet is. I don't care how "great" it sounds. What is the frequency response and power output and all that stuff. I buy speakers to make noise.
@f.d.6667Ай бұрын
@@RichFreeman I totally agree. But your best audio measurement tool always have been and always will be your own ears. I don't care about dBs, I want to "feel" the music, experience a virtual "stage" and discover details in the music I haven't heard before. That's why I suggest that people start out with a proof-of-concept dummy, where the shape of the front baffle, reflex ports, position of the tweeter as well as volume are very easily customizable and the design of the speaker can be dialed in systematically. Once all the parameters are there, you "freeze" the design and print out your enclosure with those empirically determined values. BTW: the speakers in the video sounded as if they had a severe cold 😁... even small plastic monitors need a break-in phase, I guess.
@RichFreemanАй бұрын
@@f.d.6667 Eh, if I want something other than flat reproduction I can just apply an equalizer. Kit: 250 BL A1: 350 (dimensions state Ender 3 owners are out of luck) PETG: is it mentioned anywhere how much is needed? Does it sound different if other type of filament is used? I can find cheaper speakers 😅 Seriously, without testing against similar speakers, not much can be said about them. Graphs tell part of the story but they don't indicate how the speaker performs in listening environment and how they _sound_ . Are they meant to be placed in corner, near wall or standing alone? 5.5" still needs subwoofer for movies etc, for plain music it will work (at least in smaller spaces). IDK what "right to repair" means in this context? Are all the parts specified for getting replacements? What was the last piece of speaker that any of you broke 'cause I haven't? (I'd guess the element, either punched a hole in it or tried to outperform the amplifier) There's a saying "if only tool you have is a hammer, all yer problems look like nails". We see this awfully clear with 3D printing where everyone is asking "could you" instead of "should you" 😉
