This crash course is very very fun to go through. I think in todays age when 3ds max became something from old times theses fun introduction is what we really need. Me personally I've been using 3ds max for 10 years or so and never touched deeply rigging and animation and I can say that this is a great start.

Sir, can you make a video on how to do retopology for CAD models? Really love the way you explain stuff!
@simulation_lab
@simulation_lab 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Hmm.. well that's a sort of broad topic. depending on what you're trying to re-topo, you could bring the model into zbrush, which has really robust re-topo features. If you're trying to simply turn tri's to quads, Max has a few features, but it tends to make a mess. Really just depends on the original model topo.
@nuduw
@nuduw 3 жыл бұрын
@@simulation_lab Yes I'm just trying to turn tris into quads (I want to animate and render mechanical assemblies from CAD and people say that I have to do re-topo of CAD models to apply materials to them) . I've started looking into zbrush now thanks for the tip.

Hey, I've never been so productive in max, Thanks. But every time I import the walking animation it twists my arms around maybe 180 degrees. I have tried editing the bones by twisting them in both ways but I still get the same issue. Any ideas what I have done wrong? Initially when I made the bones I noticed the elbow was bending backwards when I first skinned it. Maybe I twisted the bones? Maybe I should redraw the bones?

Hai.. great tutorial btw.. i was wondering, i have create a character with 3 different mesh, Base Mesh (nude model), Costume (Shirt) and Hair.. i have 3 different Maps as well. when i wanna rig. is it possible to use the skin modifier on this 3 mesh as a group? i wanna be able to choose element for easier to skin, and rig.. or is it i have to combine all mesh make it 1 mesh? because i wanna preserve the quality of all this 3 maps.. i wish you can give me ur opinion on this. im using 3ds max 2020 btw.
@simulation_lab
@simulation_lab 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! For that, I would probably use the Skin Wrap modifier.. So you'd rig the base mesh with the regular Skin modifier, and use the Skin Wrap modifier on the clothing and stuff.

Hi there, thanks for your tutorials. They are very clear and easy to follow. I have a question: When trying to target an Actorcore motion into 3DsMax when going through the process of creating a CATParent and then loading a CATRig "Base Human", I do not have all options preloaded as it should (according to tutorials I've tried to follow so far). I am working on a licensed version of 3DSMax 2022. How can I get it sorted? Any advice would be of great help TIA

How does Max compare to Blender rigging . Takes me some 1/2 hour now ( after much repetition) to rig a 6/8 legged creature with head/tail with control bones . Then another 1/2 hour to create a walk cycle. edit: very powerful tools after watching the whole video. Very nice Thank you. Question now is Maya indie or Max indie ?
@simulation_lab
@simulation_lab 2 жыл бұрын
Rigging is more or less easier in certain programs than Max, but Max offers pretty detailed control over the rig, which is nice. I think rigging in Maya is generally easier, but it's a different workflow, and Max tends to be more versatile.

@@simulation_lab nice, I started 3d on Maya LT in 2018 rather liked the rigging but confusing at first
@utmostkibbles9125
@utmostkibbles9125 Жыл бұрын
I'd say that neither are "indie" as they are both industry standards for different things. Even Blender is quickly growing into a professional powerhouse. I usually see Max used for modelling (especially stuff like architecture) whereas Maya seems more geared towards animation. Personally I find the UI in Maya far more intuitive, but I try to keep up with both (and Blender) just in case a certain job requires one or the other for whatever reason. The skills transfer pretty cleanly between programs, it's just a matter of navigating the new ui.
@sqwert654
@sqwert654 Жыл бұрын
@@utmostkibbles9125 I prefer Max to model, rather than Maya. But Blender with Boxcutter HardOps and Machine tools is very good..Add ZenUV and UVPacker and it's way cheaper.
